I'll explain better in the ending note!

Work Text:

Bruce, Dick, and Alfred were present at the manor this morning. Dick helped Bruce last evening as Nightwing and his father had suggested him to stay for the night.

The manor’s door opened suddenly, and they discovered with horror Kori and Roy, exhausted and bloodied, as they were holding an unconscious Jason in their arms.

“Help him.” Begged Kori.

In her arms, Jason was bleeding heavily from the head, the right arm, and the stomach, but with his suit, Bruce couldn’t realize well the extent of his injuries.

“We need to take them to the med bay. Alfred, go ahead and call Leslie. I’ll carry Jason, Dick can you help Roy?” started Bruce. Kori wasn’t hurt, so she could walk on her own without any problem. She looked at Bruce with angry eyes, not ready to let him have her protegee, but Bruce didn’t let her the choice and took his son in his arms. He tried not to look at the bloodied figure against his torso, this situation was reminding him too much of another one that happened years ago, where Jason lost his life.

Never again.

He promised himself many times that he’ll protect his son with his life, he failed again. But Jason will not die, he’ll make sure of it.

He carried him quickly to the med bay, putting him on the bed as Leslie, who was already there, and Alfred took care of him. He understood in a few minutes that he was more slowing them than anything and decided to join Roy and Kori to learn what happened.

Roy was getting patched up by Dick, his injuries were mostly superficial and he was more exhausted than anything.

“Everything was fine, we were fighting another of these gangs that plan to go big and they had bought like hundreds of guns and we just had to stop them from getting them. But it seems like they made an alliance with Black Mask and his men attacked us. It was fine, really. But then some civilians were in the middle of the fight and Jason went to save them and they used that moment to explode a building next to his location. He didn’t get in the blast but was injured by the fragments.”

Bruce nodded. He was mad at the Outlaws for being so reckless, but he also knew he couldn’t do anything about it. He could just wait for his son to wake up and pray for him to be fine.

“It’s okay, Roy. You should rest.” Mumbled Kori as she was leading the redhead to Jason’s bed. It is at that moment that Bruce realized Leslie and Alfred had finished patching his son up.

Jason had bandages on his forehead, eyebrow, nose, cheek, and jaw, and his body even though under the blanket was probably the same. He was attached to a blood IV but otherwise, he seemed rather fine. Well, fine for someone standing too close to an explosion.

Roy lay down next to the injured man and brought him close like he wanted to make sure that Jason was fine and breathing.

Bruce couldn’t blame him on that.

The Cave was always chilly, and at least, he knew that his son and Roy would be warm enough. Kori and Dick were talking awkwardly together as Roy fell asleep on the bed, and Bruce was trying to remember everything Leslie was telling him concerning Jason’s health.

“He will be fine. He just needs to rest and not move too much for the next week. He should eat healthy food if possible. And keep an eye on him.”

Bruce nodded: “Thank you so much, Leslie.”

It took a few hours for Jason to finally open his eyes. He looked exhausted, completely groggy, and winced when he tried to move.

“What the fuck happened?” he groaned, and Roy next to him opened his eyes immediately at the sound of his voice.

“Holy fuck, Jaybird! You scared the shit out of us! How are you feeling? Does it hurt? Do you need anything?”

“Roy, shut up,” Jason whined, and Bruce came closer to the bed, ready to protect his son against any possible nuisance. But Roy obeyed and pressed his lips against Jason’s one, kissing him softly not to hurt him, but probably to reassure himself that his lover was awake and alive.

Bruce knew about his son’s relationship with Roy, and he was very happy about it. Roy was helping feel better and Jason told him many times about how his lover was reassuring him at night after a nightmare, even when it was four in the morning; about how Roy was encouraging him to eat when he was feeling like he didn’t deserve to live anymore; or about how Roy was always so patient when he had to calm down Jason after a panic attack.

Bruce really liked Roy for everything he was doing for his son. Now, he was feeling as if he was witnessing a very private scene.

“Don’t fucking scared me like that again,” Roy mumbled and Bruce couldn’t agree more.

Jason smiled at his boyfriend then turn his head towards his father, finally realizing that he was in the Cave and not in a random shitty hospital.

“Hey, Bruce.” He rasped and Bruce had to stop himself from pushing Roy away and taking his son in his arms.

“Hey, Jaybaby. How are you feeling?” asked the older man.

“Everything hurts, and I’m fucking exhausted, but I think I’m fine considering what happened.”

Bruce nodded and kissed his son’s hairline. “Alright, I’m letting you two rest. Leslie told us that we could bring you back to the Manor in the afternoon. I won’t be far if you need any help.”

Jason answered with a tired smile and a small: “Thanks, dad.” And Bruce left to make more research about the gang they fought on the Bat-computer.

Bruce could see Kori sit on a chair next to the bed, taking Jason’s hand in one of hers.

“Why do you always have to end up in the worst state, Jason?”

“As if I was doing it on purpose,” groaned the injured man, and Roy chuckled next to him.

They kept talking for a few more minutes but the adult couldn’t and didn’t want to hear their conversations before Kori stood up, letting the two lovers sleep. She addressed a smile to Bruce as she left the Cave to join Steph and Cass that were probably upstairs.

Jason was already asleep in a few seconds, and Roy kissed his cheek before closing his eyes too.

Bruce carried his son to the guest bedroom in the afternoon. Jason was complaining as always but his father didn’t really care, knowing that Jason loved way too much being taken care of.

Jason's injuries were too bad for him to move so Roy and Kori stayed by his side, watching movies together, hugging him tightly, and petting his hair to make him fall asleep. Alfred was bringing them food when it was lunch, breakfast, or dinner time. Sometimes, Jason’s siblings were bringing them books, or movies or were just joining their cuddle pile. Bruce was taking Roy’s place when the latter had to leave to help Oliver Queen. He let his son curl up against his torso. He enjoyed the simple fact that his son was safe and alive in his arms, dozing off slowly. Jason was a very strong and proud man, but when he was tired or hurt, or when he needed comfort, he was suddenly becoming very soft and needed a lot of reassurance. Bruce didn’t notice it at first, but Roy told him many months ago and now Bruce could see it way more often.

A few days later, Jason could walk again, even though it was a bit painful. He was laying on his father’s bed, waiting for breakfast to be ready.

“How are you feeling lad? Does anything hurt?”

“I’m fine, old man. Just a little sore.”

“Roy was very worried about you, and I was too. I know you’ll probably not listen, but please try to take care of yourself.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him!” screamed Roy from next to Jason, and the latter groaned before punching him softly on the shoulder.

God, Roy. My head still hurts, shut the fuck up.”

“Sorry, babe.” Mumbled Roy before kissing Jason’s cheek. “Alfred said he had pancakes ready for us, now that you can walk we join them in the kitchen. Kori will be happy to see you.”

Jason nodded and let his father and his boyfriend helped him up. Then Roy put an arm around his waist to help him just a bit, knowing that Jason didn’t really like looking weak. Even when he was indeed weak for the moment. Even though he was healing, he still was caught in an explosion just a few days ago.

When Kori saw Jason standing in the kitchen, she ran to him and hugged him carefully.

“I am glad to see you on your feet again, Jason.” She smiled, then winked at Roy. She let go of Jason and he sat at the table, eating the pancakes Alfred made him. He was indeed feeling better, and even though he knew he needed to take it easy for the next few days, he also knew Roy and Bruce would not leave him out of their sight for the next weeks at least. Sometimes he didn’t know which one between his father and his boyfriend was the most overprotective.

He finally decided to give up on that and just pretend he was bothered by the attention they were giving him. He knew he couldn't do anything about that anyway.
