Morgan walks into the apartment. Blinks. Blinks again. Pinches themselves. Nope, their living room is still full of Barnaby, Ohio James, Rex Roofer, Chad, and three gorgeous cats with very distinct golden eyes. When the cats see them, they immediately approach and start winding around their legs and purring. Sighing, Morgan bends down to give them the affection they're begging for and glares up at Barnaby.
"I thought I gave you my key for hero emergencies only."
Barnaby shrugs in response and says, "They were breaking into your- into your - into the apartment, and I decided to super- super- supervise." From where Rex is tangled up in the very clearly cat claw mark covered curtains, an indignant shout rings out.
"In what universe is Alex and their clone-with-powers discovering the existence of cat Alex clone-with-powers and running off to cause havoc not a hero emergency ?!" Morgan snorts disbelievingly, cats practically climbing them as they purred and butted their heads against their hands and thighs adoringly.
"Riiiiight, havoc ", they respond, as one of the cat Alexes collapses in a purring puddle as they scratch that one spot behind their ear. Rex makes an unintelligible noise as he watches, and Chad winces from where he's been splayed across the couch and completely covered in scratches this whole time. The ones on his shakanium arms look particularly gruesome. Morgan continues unperturbed, "Even if they were causing havoc, considering you made the clones, this seems solidly a you problem, not a hero problem. Speaking of, if you and Chad are here to fail at capturing them", Morgan raises a questioning eyebrow. Chad raises a hand and swings it in a seesaw motion. Two of the fingers are missing. "And Barnaby is here to supervise, thank you by the way, then what the fuck is Ohio doing here?"
A crunching noise sounds from the loveseat as they all swing to look at its occupant. Chad looks surprised, then confused, as though he isn't quite sure who this is or when he got here. Rex turns an interesting shade of red and Barnaby rolls his eyes to cover a fond smile. Morgan's eyes narrow in suspicion because that bag on Ohio's lap looks a lot like--
"I was out of chips," Ohio says, smiling with all the brazen stupidity and confidence of one of his students who hasn't done the reading for the entire semester. Morgan would laugh if the chips weren't 1) theirs and 2) the special chocolate covered potato chips they made earlier this week with the last of their good Venezuelan cacao. Next time Ohio was hanging over a pit of non venomous snakes they weren't pulling him out they were shoving him in .
"I", Morgan announced with as much dignity as they could muster as they stood from their crouch to the plaintive whines of the cat Alexes at their feet, "am not dealing with this right now." They plucked up one of the cats at their feet seemingly at random, stalked across the room, snatched the bag of chips out of Ohio's opportunistic hands, and strode into the blissfully idiot free depths of their apartment. Their bedroom door slammed.
"How do they do that", whined one of the two suddenly very human Alexes, still sitting by the door where Morgan had left them. They both looked very distinctly bereft. And perhaps besotted. A dash of betrayal. As one, they sighed, still staring longingly after Morgan and the cat that was them but not.
"Wow."
