Chapter Text
Klaus wasn’t thinking of much, his first thought was to get as far as possible from the people who had kidnapped him. His next thought was about where he could get drugs, everything was too much and he had been sober for way too long. So here's to hoping this briefcase he stole had something of value, hell he would take anything he could pawn. ‘Please be money’ he muttered to himself before opening the briefcase.
He was not expecting a flash of blue light, he was hoping for money, but expecting clothes. Instead he got neither, what he got was a blinding light and one hell of a headache. His skin itched and he could hear the bitching and moaning of the ghost around him.
He was somehow in clothes again, which was odd really but not the strangest thing to happen to him. He lifted himself off the ground shakily, when he stood up something felt off, he didn’t really know how to explain it. He felt shorter and there was no itch of his facial hair, he lifted the briefcase off the ground, it felt heavy.
Klaus was beginning to get a little freaked out, everything around him was different. He knew every part of the city and this is nowhere he remembered. “Ben where are we, Ben talk to me mi hermano” he spun looking for him, but he wasn’t there. In the ten years since he died he was always there, he never left his side. Ben would always threaten to leave Klaus, but they both knew he never would, they have a strange attachment to one another.
Something was wrong. He needed to figure out what that briefcase did to him. Everyone thought Klaus was stupid and weak, but he went through the same schooling and training just like everyone else did. He didn’t start hardcore drugs until Ben died so despite coming to what they called school, high he still retained information.
Despite it all he didn’t crave any of his normal vices, I mean he wanted the ghost surrounding him to shut the fuck up, but the craving wasn’t there. He never thought he would have to do this again, but time to use everything he learned. First he had to clear his head, so he took a breath and found the nearest bathroom. Klaus crouched down rinsing his face with cool water, the feeling was nice and very calming. He was finally calming down until “what the hell, oh no, oh fuck”. He was fifteen again, which was not fun the first time he would not want to live through it again.
Klause had a tradition every birthday he would get a new tattoo, he started this tradition after the first tattoo his father made them all get. He was hoping having more tattoos would make the umbrella stand out less, but it only just made his father angry. It was worth it though he loved each of his tattoos. On his fifteenth he got the goodbye to match the hello from his fourteenth. But he was lacking the butterfly on his ankle from his sixteenth, that one was purely to piss off his father.
So he figured out part of the problem. Next he should probably figure out the date and go from there. A newspaper would probably have the date right, he could ask someone random, but he doesn't want to get asked about his parents. Where would you even find a newspaper, nobody even reads them anymore.
It took them three stores before he found one the date is August 21, 2021. So he’s in the future somehow, but only about two years into the future. So that means they stopped the apocalypse or Klaus isn’t home anymore, he was hoping for the first but it was most likely the latter from the looks of the newspaper. The headlines said something about the Avengers and how they stopped the world from ending again. Maybe Five should ask them for advice since they seemed to have it figured out.
He took a second to observe everyone around him. No one really paid him any mind, each person had their own lives to live, no time to waste on others. The streets were filthy compared to home. Garbage littered the streets and traffic was backed up. The buildings were tall, sky scrappers, from what he saw around him he was in New York. Not to mention the big green lady that you can see from basically anywhere in New York city. The sounds were overwhelming, it was just a constant mess of honking and people yelling into their phones or at each other.
Time to do something besides stand there staring. He looked around trying to find the person most likely to help him. He made his way to a nearby park. It was kind of nice to see greenery and pretty flowers in the middle of an unforgiving city full of terrible things. Klaus wandered around the park for a few minutes just observing the scenery. Until he got distracted by a ghost, she hadn't noticed him yet so he did his best to make it seem as if he didn't see her.
Klaus was just watching his feet, stepping over cracks in the sidewalk and avoiding ants. Anything to keep him from the ghost, too bad he needed to be sober to get himself home, he could really use a drink. He was too late to stop himself when he saw feet in front of him, they both fell down with a shout.
Papers scattered throughout the air and he made eye contact with a boy. Around fifteen brown curly hair, maybe around 5'8 with a science pun on his shirt. The boy scrambled around grabbing his papers, Klaus helped him grab his papers since it was partially his fault anyways. The boy was freaking out his words coming out in a flurry, Klaus picked out bits and pieces. He was apologizing and saying how he should have paid more attention and so on so forth.
"Calm down you're good no hard feelings" Klaus handed him his papers and the boy huffed out a laugh. "I'm Peter" the boy, or Peter held his hand out. Klaus snickered, he couldn't believe people still shook hands especially teens. "Klaus" he shook his hand to be nice then waved with his Hello hand. Peter brightened at the tattoo, this kid was too easy to read. "So Peter I'm new to New York and I wanted to see the Avengers tower, are there any tours?"
Peter visibly brightened at the mention of the Avengers. "I don't think there are any tours going on right now, but I'm an intern there and I could give you a tour to say sorry for knocking you to the ground" his head tilted sideways and his smile was way too bright. This kid was way too trusting but would be a great source of information. Klaus feels a bit bad but he wasn't about to give up free information.
Klaus smiled back at him, putting on his best mask. "That would be awesome, but are you sure I wouldn't want to get you in trouble". He was always good at playing people, he was taught to do it when he was young and only refined his skills on the street. Peter was just too pure "it's no problem really, I'll just let Mister Stark know and we should be good. Come on, the tower isn't far from here, I hope you don't mind walking.
He followed behind him, the boy was like a puppy. He had tons of energy and almost bounced as he walked, his hair was fluffy and he did a head tilt, he kinda wanted to just ruffle his hair. "I come from Canada so I don't know a whole lot about the Avengers, can you tell me more".
Peter was a fanboy, it was so obvious by the way he spoke about these people. Klaus had to admit though he thought him and his fucked up family was weird but these guys take the cake. I mean a tin man, a guy that turns green, a soldier that was literally cryogenically frozen accidentally. It was wild to think about, he wouldn't have believed it if the words didn't come from a kid that seemed incapable of lying.
The kid was still talking breathlessly about Tony Stark and the amazing person he was when they arrived. The place was huge, and he thought his dad was extra to buy an entire block for the academy. "Wow, and they use this entire place just for the Avenger". Peter nodded excitedly and began explaining that some of the floors were for training or labs. Peter flashed his badge to the guard and walked in guiding Klaus in with him.
"Kid what took you so long I was about to call your aunt".
