Work Text:
It was really late at night, and it didn’t help that it was winter. Su was just about to go to bed when his best friend, Kevin, gave him a call. It was weird because Kevin rarely called unless something was wrong.
“Su… I need you,” Was Kevin crying, or was he just snotty from the cold? Either way Su was going to come pick him up. “I'm in—”
So that’s where he is now, Su running as fast as he can to where Kevin said he was. The house where Kevin is was just a block away, but still. It didn’t take too long before he saw the silhouette of his dear friend sitting on the sidewalk.
“Kevin!” Su panted, he put his hands on his knees to stabilize himself, he never was a runner. “Let’s go back to the dorms now.” But Kevin made no move to stand up, rather he remained seated on that curb. “Kevin…?” Su finally had a good look at his friends’ face, it was red, was he having a fever?
“SU!” Kevin practically beamed at Su. Ah, he was drunk.
“Su… have I ever told you…” Kevin slurred as he gave a lopsided grin towards his best friend, “I love you?”
Su’s cheeks warmed up at that, but Su knew Kevin didn’t mean it in the way he wanted it to. Still, he clung to that chance that maybe it was.
“I know,” Su sighed, putting Kevins arm around his shoulder. “I know, Kevin.”
“No no no no not like that,” Kevin shook his head and took a wobbly step in front of Su “I love you, I looooove you!” Kevin spread out his arms to show his point, was Kevin trying to kill him? Does Kevin know of his crush towards him? Does he like him back?
Su quickly put those thoughts away, Kevin was drunk, and drunk people say all kinds of things. Be rational Su, why would he love you? Hell, why would you want him to? There are many others he could love but you are his only best friend, you should be content with where you are now.
“Let's go back to the dorms,” Su sighed, Kevin doesn’t mean it in the way Su wants it to. Kevin doesn't love Su like that.
“Do you love me too?”
“…idiot” Su really couldn’t help the blush that formed on the tips of his ears, he could just say it was from the cold. “Of course I do.”
Finally reaching their building, he unlocks the door and gets greeted by his other roommate Kalpas, making something in the kitchen. Su feels Kalpas look at the both of them with a quirked brow beneath that mask of his, Su offers an apologetic smile, Kalpas seemed to ignore them after that.
“Let's go to bed now, okay?” Su made his way towards Kevins room, opening the door he set him down his bed. Kevin laughs as he grabbed Su by his waist, promptly fell on his side on the bed, and loudly proclaimed, “Let's go on… a date!”
“Alright, alright…” a date?! Su feels the blush on his ears creep their way onto his cheeks, “Lets-let's talk about that when you’re sober.”
“But I really love you!” Kevin laughed as he nudged his head in between the crook of Sus’ neck.
“Yeah... yeah, tomorrow,” Su can't help the smile creeping up his face. A date, huh? Maybe…Feeling his friends breath slow, so does his, and soon both were asleep.
Kevin woke up feeling like he just got run over by a truck, he groans as he gets up from his bed. Huh, where’s Su? Didn’t he fall asleep with him? Or did he make all that up in a dream? He heard a knock come from his door and gave a grunt in response.
“Morning,” Kevin just groaned in response, “That bad? How much did you drink?” Su handed Kevin a glass of water, which he gratefully chugged down. “Breakfast is ready, I’ll be waiting in the living room.”
Did Kevin forget? That’s alright, I have time. Su thought to himself while staring at the ceiling one night in bed.
A few months later, Kevin comes up to Su to ask something.
The both of them were having lunch together on the roof, the sun shining in just the right position so that when it hit Kevin, it would look like he had a halo above his head.
“Hey Su, remember the girl I told you about?” Kevin was... shy when he asked Su. Which was strange since this was Kevin, the literal incarnation of the Sun, overly flashy, and confident Kevin.
“Mei?” Is this going where he thinks it's going?
“I think...” Kevin looked uncharacteristically bashful. It was then that Su realized, it is going where he thinks it's going.
Stop it Su, be rational. You are his friend, and you should be happy for him. Support him no matter what. The mantra that Su kept repeating in his head in hopes that it would imprint in his brain and get rid of that sinking feeling hes getting in his chest.
But it didn’t, all Su could do was smile at his friend in hopes he hasn’t noticed the turmoil in his mind. He was too late, and now all he could do was support his best friend. At least he still held that part of Kevins life.
“I’m in love,”
…
And Su's heart broke.
