Work Text:
“Daaaaaaaaad! It's about to start!” Setsuka called out as she ran into the living room.
Izuku Midoriya laughed fondly to himself as he followed his daughter into the room. “I’m coming, Songbird! You know I wouldn’t miss Present Mic’s show for the world!” Izuku stopped in the doorway to the living room for a moment to look over his family.
Momo Yaoyorozu and Ochako Uraraka were on one couch, with Ochako lying down with her head in Momo’s lap. Momo was absently mindly running her free hand through Ochako’s hair while Momo and Ochako idly scrolled on their phones. They both smiled up at him as he stopped, and Izuku could see the love behind their eyes.
Across from his two wives sat two of his kids, Toshi Yaoyorozu and Nana Uraraka. Both were focused on the laptops on their legs, getting their last bit of school work done for the night as they waited for the podcast to start. Setsuka Jirou was sitting in the only arm chair, bouncing up and down while swinging her legs excitedly and tapping her jacks together, looking towards the laptop in front of her.
“Hurry up, Dad! I don’t want to miss it!” Setsuka called out again after seeing him standing in the doorway. Izuku’s smile grew wider as he made his way towards his youngest daughter, picking her up and taking a seat, allowing Setsuka to sit in his lap. He leaned forward and picked up his laptop, carefully placing it on Setsuka’s lap and allowing her to hold it, while he activated the sound system in front of them.
Izuku could remember rushing to the family computer when he was younger, begging his mother to put on the podcast. His smile grew more fondly as he signed into his account, ‘MightyBoy’, created by his mother before he could even type on the computer. He eventually got his brother, Katsuki Bakugo, to start listening to the podcast with him. With his own account of ‘GroundZero’, the two brothers never missed a podcast growing up.
When Momo, Ochako, and Himiko had entered their lives, Izuku and Katsuki convinced them to join in listening to the podcast. ‘PrincessRoyalty’, ‘NorthStar’, and ‘Carmilla’ had joined in on listening to the podcast, bringing a smile to Izuku as he recognized who the accounts belonged to. It wasn’t long after that ‘StereoHeart’ and ‘WaterWings’ joined in listening after starting at UA. It might have taken a few months, but it became a weekly event to listen to Put Your Hands Up Radio with their classmates at UA.
“Is Momma working tonight?” Nana questioned looking towards him, causing Setsuka and Toshi to look towards their father. “I thought you didn’t schedule patrols during the podcast?”
“No, Momma isn’t patrolling tonight.” Izuku confirmed. “She had other important business to take care of, but she did say she wished she could be here tonight.” He could see the sad looks on his kids' faces, but they understood that Hero Business was like that sometimes.
When Izuku had converted Might Tower into the Pillars of Hope Agency, he made sure that anybody who wanted to listen to the Put Your Hands Up Radio podcast had the time off to do so. Some of his fellow heroes opted to work during these times, making sure Japan wasn’t left without any heroes patrolling, indicating they could listen to the podcast later or listen as they worked. Izuku made sure that he always offered to cover their shifts if they needed some time off, but his hero family knew how much he loved spending time with his actual family. Izuku was always on standby, just in case something did happen that he needed to respond to.
Kyouka had mentioned she wouldn’t be joining them in listening that night, informing them she had a bigger surprise for them later on. It wasn’t often that Kyouka would surprise them, but when she did, they always knew she went over the top with it. Izuku already had an idea of what the surprise was, having spoken with Present Mic earlier in the week. Kyouka had sent out a message over their Pillars of Hope Agency group chat earlier in the week, indicating that if their found family had time, to tune into the podcast this week. She mentioned that Present Mic had a big announcement, and she wanted to make sure everyone knew about it.
Checking the users, Izuku spotted many of his friend’s and family’s account names already listening. ‘Froppy’, ‘SupportGirl47’, ‘SleepingBeauty’, ‘NeedCoffee’, and ‘AmIADog’ where a few that he recognized instantly, knowing they belonged to Tsuyu Asui, Melissa Shield, Nemuri Kayama (And Inko Midoriya), Shota Aizawa, and Nezu respectfully.
When the intro to Present Mic’s signature song started, the chat absolutely went wild. Izuku had to make sure to put a hand around Setsuka’s midsection as she bounced up and down, and a hand on the laptop to make sure it didn’t fall from his lap.
“Good Evening, Little Listeners!”
“You’re on in 5… 4… 3…” Present Mic’s assistant continued counting down by dropping the fingers they were holding up, making sure that his voice wasn’t heard on the podcast itself.
“Good evening, Little Listeners! Welcome to Put Your Hands Up Radio podcast!” Present Mic started off, talking into the microphone that was situated on the table in front of him, a laptop with a live chat room off to one side. Present Mic smiled as he recognized a lot of his most active users, including some previous students that still listened to his show. “You already know who I am, but if you don’t, I’m your host Present Mic!”
Present Mic adjusted the volume on his intro music down and allowed it to fade into the background. “I’ve got a very special show for everyone listening tonight, as well as a few announcements.” Present Mic cleared his throat as he looked at his notes in front of him. “I know I have some long term listeners out there, but does anybody actually know how long I’ve been running this podcast for?”
Present Mic watched as the chat in front of him went wild with all the different guesses, but he wasn’t seeing the exact number of years. “Whoa!” Present Mic exclaimed, stopping the chat when he saw the right number. “I saw what you typed MightyBoy! For anybody who didn’t see the comment, MightyBoy guessed the correct answer at thirty years! I started this podcast right after graduating from UA, both to connect better with my fans, but to also give back to the community. Thirty years ago today is when Put Your Hands Up Radio was first announced and broadcasted to the public, with Hands Up After Show following a few years later.”
“When I first started Put Your Hands Up Radio, I remember broadcasting to a select few friends and employees, back before I even had a chance to make a name for myself!” Present Mic’s smile grew more genuine as he thought about all the good memories over the years. “Now we broadcast worldwide with unique listeners from every corner of the earth! From North America to South America, from Europe to Asia! We are continuously seeing the numbers increase every single day, and I could not thank my listeners enough!”
Present Mic switched his upbeat intro song into something a little more slow. “But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.” Present Mic watched as the chat threw questions at him, asking him what he meant, or where he was going. “Today will be my last day as host of Put Your Hands Up Radio.” Present Mic smiled as he watched the chat explode with comments, many saying ‘Please don’t stop’ or something similar along those lines. “Many of you might remember me talking about slowing down hero work previously, especially with the next generation up and coming. It wasn’t until after much consideration, that I decided to retire from both hero work and broadcasting entirely.”
(Hells Bells Instrumental by AC/DC)
Present Mic smiled as he saw the comments change from ‘Please don’t go’ to more excited comments, already knowing what the intro was for. “You may be asking yourselves what this means for the podcast moving forward; some of you have already caught on, and many of you have guessed correctly!” Present Mic watched as the door to the studio opened and Kyouka Jirou walked in, taking a seat across from him, quickly putting on her own headset. “Which leads me to my next announcement!”
The both of them listened to the Intro some more before adjusting the volume down, letting it fade into the background. “The chat is going absolutely wild! Many of you already know her, while some of you can’t wait to hear more! Please allow me to introduce Viola, or better known around these parts as DJ Vi!”
“Whew!” Kyouka responded as she turned on her microphone, watching the chat scrolling so fast that it was barely readable. “What an introduction from Present Mic! Good evening listeners! It feels great to be back on Put Your Hands Up Radio!” Kyouka looked up at Present Mic, finding him smiling his full smile as Kyouka talked into the microphone as if she’s done it thousands of times in the past.
Present Mic focused back on his chat, quickly activating slow mode to see if he could keep up with the comments, and failing to do so. “Even with a slow mode enabled, the chat is going absolutely crazy! Everyone seems to love you, DJ Vi!”
Kyouka smirked at Present Mic before focusing back on the chat. “And I love all my listeners back! It feels like forever since Mic first decided to invite me on the show! I’ll admit that I was overjoyed that you reached out to me, and even more when you presented me with this opportunity!”
“Whoa!” Present Mic said, stopping Kyouka from continuing, receiving a smirk in response. They’ve done these shows together so often in the past that they knew how the other presented, and could easily tiptoe the line of revealing too much or not enough, waiting until the time was right. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves now! The little listeners haven’t been informed of what’s to come yet!”
Kyouka laughed. “Can you really blame me, Mic? I’ve been listening to Put Your Hands Up Radio ever since my husband introduced your show to us!” Kyouka smiled at Mic, allowing him to return one of his own. “It’s been an honor to have the chance to co-host the show with you in the past, and while I’m excited for what’s to come, I don’t know if I’ll ever compare to what you’ve built here today.”
Present Mic sniffled, still wearing his wide smile. “You’re gonna make me cry, Vi! You know I don’t do well with these kinds of things!”
Kyouka laughed at her co-host again. “I’d say I’m sorry, Mic, but I’m not a liar.” Kyouka smiled as she looked towards the comments. She saw some of them enjoying the friendly banter between the previous teacher and student duo, some even saying they’ve missed it. “Why don’t we let Mic recover from his emotions?” Kyouka smirked towards Present Mic as he took off his shades and wiped his eyes, sending Kyouka a glare right after. “What’s everyone wanting to listen to on this fine night? We’ll take a request before we jump into the main announcement of the night!”
“That sounds perfect to me!” Present Mic responded a bit more cheerily, putting his glasses back on. “Aha! I haven’t heard that song in forever!” Present Mic quickly looked up the song on his main broadcasting laptop between Kyouka and himself, queuing it up to play next. “This is ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ by Kansas and you’re listening to Put Your Hands Up Radio!”
(Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas)
“That song just gets me so pumped up!” Present Mic exclaimed as the song ended and they activated their microphones again. “Makes me want to pick up a shotgun, find an old Impala, and hunt some demons!”
“I’d never have guessed you were a Supernatural fan, Mic.” Kyouka commented.
“I’m surprised you even recognize it!” Present Mic responded with his own smile.
“What can I say? My sister-in-law introduced it to us one day, and we were hooked right from the start.” Kyouka responded. “Who’s your favorite character on the show, Mic?”
Present Mic just smirked as he opened his mouth wide. “Sam! Sam! Look at how big my mouth is!”
Kyouka had to pull back from the microphone as she laughed, making Present Mic laugh just as hard. “SAMMY!” Kyouka said in a voice imitating Dean Winchester, causing Present Mic to double over in laughter again. “Those two reminded me so much of my husband and brother-in-law.”
“Oh?” Present Mic questioned in interest. “You can’t just say that and not expect to tell us more!”
Kyouka looked towards the chat, seeing both ‘MightyBoy’ and ‘GroundZero’ talking. “Deku and Dynamite were two brothers against the world before they met us, and they could easily swap the roles of Dean and Sam on any given day.” Kyouka smiled as she watched the two users in the chat bicker back and forth about who was who. “Dynamite might claim he played the older brother of Dean, protecting his younger brother Deku as Sam, but I found it happened the other way more often. Deku was always looking out for Dynamite as they grew up and was the only one who could calm his anger.” Kyouka smiled as she watched ‘WaterWings’ comment a few times. “That is until his wife came along and changed his whole world view.”
“You love causing chaos in the chat, don’t you, Vi?” Present Mic smirked towards her.
“Have you seen the people I grew up with?” Kyouka responded in kind. “Look at our teacher! We learned from the best!”
“You aren’t wrong about that!” Present Mic responded, smiling as he remembered his friend. Shota Aizawa had retired from teaching and hero work years ago, not long after the world had changed. He claimed that he wasn’t in any shape to train the next generation, instead handing down the torch. Nezu had offered him a position as Vice Principal before he retired, but he quickly turned it down, citing the blood pressure that drinking enough coffee to deal with teenagers would give him, and the gray hairs they already had. “Ol’ Eraser was the best at causing chaos!” Present Mic smiled as he watched ‘NeedCoffee’ send a few comments in the chatroom, claiming he could still kick Present Mic’s butt if he had to.
“I think we’ve let the listeners wait long enough, don’t you think, Mic?” Kyouka questioned, bringing Present Mic out of the memories of the past.
“I think you’re right, Vi!” Present Mic cleared his throat as he shuffled papers closer to the microphone so that the listeners could hear them. “As I mentioned earlier, I have decided to retire from hero work and broadcasting entirely. So what does this mean for Put Your Hands Up Radio?” Kyouka smiled as Present Mic looked towards her, already knowing about the announcement well in advance. “I have decided to pass on the torch to someone who I know will change the world, more than she already has.” Present Mic looked back at the chat to see it going absolutely wild, none more than her family members. “That’s right! I have chosen DJ Vi as my successor for Put Your Hands Up Radio!”
“I couldn’t believe it when Mic contacted me about taking over the podcast.” Kyouka started, reading the chat messages as quickly as she could. “Ever since I first stepped foot into this studio, I had hoped to one day be able to do something similar, but I never would have guessed about taking over the podcast itself!”
“There’s no one better I could have picked, Vi.” Present Mic said softly towards his previous student, causing Kyouka to look back towards him with happiness in her eyes. “From the moment you walked into this studio so many years ago, I knew that you would change the world.” Present Mic watched as tears started forming in Kyouka’s eyes as he spoke from the heart. “Even though you have pulled back from hero work to focus more on your family and other avenues of your life, you continuously change the world for the better.”
“Thank you, Mic.” Kyouka spoke softly, a smile tugging at the edges of her lips as she reached up and wiped the tears away. “I wouldn’t be here today if not for my husband and wives, and for you, Mic.”
“Alright” Present Mic said quietly as he took a deep breath. “Before we have a chance to dive into the waterworks, why don’t we start the next song?” Kyouka nodded, not trusting her voice at the moment. “Do we have any requests?” Present Mic looked back towards the chatroom to find requests flooding the chatroom from all different genres, spotting one that caught his eye. “It’s not often that GroundZero requests a song! Here’s ‘Diamond Girl’ by Stevie B dedicated to WaterWings in the chat!”
“And we’re back!” Present Mic announced as he faded out the last song, returning to some background beats to keep the show from going radio silent. “After the very emotional talk we had before the last song, how about we dive into some callers and see what our listeners think?”
“That sounds good to me!” Kyouka responded, already seeing the phone lines full of callers. “Put Your Hands Up Radio, first caller, go ahead!”
“Hi Momma!” A younger voice called over the line, instantly causing a warm feeling to bloom in Kyouka’s chest as a smile crossed her face. Ever since her daughter first learned how to speak, Kyouka knew it was her favorite sound in the world; only the heartbeats of her family were even close.
“Songbird!” Kyouka exclaimed happily. “I wasn’t expecting you to call!”
Kyouka could hear the beautiful sound of laughter from her daughter through the phone. “Dad made sure to call as soon as the show started! He wanted to make sure he was the first caller!”
“I should have known.” Kyouka smiled fondly as she lightly shook her head. “Who else is listening?”
“Mom, Ma, Toshi, and Nana are listening!” Setsuka responded excitedly. “Dad said it was an important show to listen to, and mentioned that all the Pillars were currently tuned in!” Kyouka looked towards the chatroom’s viewer list, confirming that all her previous classmates and her fellow heroes were listening, making her heart swell even more for her found family. “Hello Present Mic!”
“Hello, little listener!” Present Mic responded, watching Kyouka’s reaction to her daughter. “It’s been a while since I’ve heard from you!”
“Momma’s been teaching me what she learned from you! I want to become a musician like her!” Setsuka responded over the phone, the excitement leaking out of her in waves.
“Oh?” Present Mic sounded more interested as he looked towards Kyouka, seeing that she was still smiling. “Your Mother is an amazing musician, probably one of the best of today! I’m surprised you don’t want to be a hero like your parents.” Kyouka looked over towards Present Mic, shaking her head slowly even as her smile faded a bit.
“Dad said the same thing…” Setsuka trailed off in thought for a moment. “I don’t know if I want to be a hero yet, but Dad said that everyone would support me in any decision I made.”
“You can be whatever you want, Songbird.” Kyouka responded quietly and fondly. “No matter what you decide, we will always support you.”
“Thanks, Momma.” Setsuka responded quietly. “Dad wants to talk with you.” Kyouka didn’t even have a chance to respond before she heard the phone being passed over.
“Hey, Babe.” Izuku spoke into the phone, and Kyouka could hear the smirk in his voice, causing a dusting of a blush to cross her cheeks. Kyouka smiled at her husband’s antics, knowing that he still loved to tease her, even after so many years of being together.
“Zuku…” Kyouka responded quietly and threateningly. She could hear Izuku laugh on the other end of the line, followed by the rest of her family that surrounded him.
“Sorry, Vi. Couldn’t pass up the opportunity.” Izuku responded a bit more genuinely. “Congratulations on your promotion. Mic was right to say nobody deserves it more than you do.”
“Thanks, Zuku.” Kyouka responded, looking towards Present Mic across from her, a smile plastered on his face.
“Hey, Mic!” Izuku spoke over the line, causing Present Mic to straighten back up.
“Hello, little listener!” Present Mic responded.
Izuku laughed over the line, bringing a smile back to Present Mic’s and Kyouka’s faces at how genuine it sounded. “I haven’t been a little listener in a long time, Mic.”
“You’ll always be a little listener to me, MightyBoy.” Present Mic smirked when he heard Izuku stutter over the line. “I still remember the first day you called in to the show, all those years ago. And your hilarious chat messages! You could barely get a full sentence out then!”
“It was hard to type on the keyboard with my little hands!” Izuku exclaimed, causing Present Mic, Kyouka, and Izuku to laugh together. “Thank you for everything you’ve done over the years, Mic. I’m sad to see you retiring after so many years, but I’m happy you’ve decided to focus more on family.”
Present Mic looked across at Kyouka, finding her staring off into space with a small smile. He knew how much she enjoyed listening to Izuku talk, even saying that some nights listening to Izuku was the only way she’d get to sleep. “I should be thanking you, little listener, for everything you’ve done for Japan and the world. It’s because of you I was able to settle down and start a family.”
“No need to thank me, Mic. I was just doing what any hero would have done.” Present Mic could hear the smile in his voice, and watched as Kyouka shook her head fondly. “But enough of that talk! I was hoping that I could make a request?”
“Of course, Zuku!” Kyouka responded immediately. “What song would you like to listen to?”
“Remember the first song I ever quoted to you?” Izuku questioned, and Kyouka could hear the smile in his voice.
“Don’t let anybody ever say you ain’t beautiful…” Kyouka said fondly, remembering the conversation as if it happened yesterday. She looked up towards Present Mic, getting a nod in response.
“Love you, Vi. We’ll be waiting for you to get home.” Izuku responded.
“Love you too, Zuku.” Kyouka responded quietly before clearing her throat, speaking into her microphone a bit louder. “This is ‘Beautiful’ by Eminem on Put Your Hands Up Radio!”
“Not often we get a request by one of the world’s greatest rappers, but you won’t hear me complaining!” Present Mic announced as the song trailed off and turned back into background beats. “Vi and I were talking while that song was playing, and she’s decided to make her own announcement today!”
“Thank you, Mic!” Kyouka responded as she looked back towards the chatroom. “As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been listening to Put Your Hands Up Radio since my husband introduced me to the podcast in our first year of UA. I’m very grateful for what Mic has offered me today, and I cannot wait to explore my own podcast in the future.” Present Mic nodded, encouraging her to continue. “After speaking to Mic about it, and getting his blessing in response, I have decided to change the name of the broadcast.”
“Now before all you little listeners get upset, please allow Vi to explain her reasoning!” Present Mic said, stopping the flood of comments that went against her decision.
“Mic has built this brand over the past thirty years, mostly by himself.” Kyouka continued as she closed her eyes, trying to avoid reading the chat in front of her. “When people search for Put Your Hands Up Radio on the HeroNet, the first thing you will find is Present Mic and all his accomplishments over the years. I don’t want to take anything away from his accomplishments because Mic was and still is an amazing hero in his own right.” Kyouka opened her eyes to find Present Mic smiling towards her, giving her a small nod in encouragement. “Because of this, I have decided to change Put Your Hands Up Radio into Hero Jukebox.”
Kyouka opened her eyes to look towards the chatroom after making her announcement, and was overjoyed with how many people agreed with her reasoning. She looked towards Present Mic to find him reading the comments, watching as the different emotions crossed his face.
“But that’s not the only announcement I wanted to make today.” Kyouka started, causing Present Mic to look towards her in confusion. “Ever since I learned that I was taking over Put Your Hands Up Radio, I decided to contact my parents and a few other connections I have within the musical industry.” Kyouka let a smile grace her face as she watched Present Mic’s confusion continue. “I have personally nominated Present Mic, his podcast of Put Your Hands Up Radio, and his late night podcast of Hands Up Aftershow to the Music Hall of Fame.” Kyouka watched as Present Mic’s mouth slowly opened in surprise. “But not only have I nominated him for Japan’s Music Hall of Fame, but also the Worldwide Music Hall of Fame.”
“But… What… How… Huh?!” Present Mic stuttered out as he continued to look at Kyouka in disbelief.
“Being married to the CEO of the biggest support company in the world and to the unofficial Number One Hero worldwide has its perks.” Kyouka responded with a smile. “You deserve the nominations more than anybody, Mic.”
Present Mic reached up and removed his glasses, closing his eyes tightly, as he tried to suppress his tears of joy and happiness. “Thank you, Vi. You don’t know how much that means to me.”
“I kind of have an idea.” Kyouka responded before she focused back on the chatroom. “While Mic recovers from that bombshell I just dropped on him, do we have any other requests from our listeners?!” Kyouka quickly read over the songs that were getting thrown at her before she noticed one she hadn’t heard in forever. “Whoa! I haven’t heard this song in forever! Thanks for the request, Carmilla! This is ‘It’s My Life’ by Bon Jovi!”
“Thank you again for the request, Carmilla!” Present Mic spoke up as he adjusted the music once more. “DJ Vi and I have one more announcement to make before we let you all go!”
“It seems like all we’ve been doing is making announcements, Mic!” Kyouka exclaimed, though Present Mic could see the smile on her face. “We barely played any songs tonight!”
Present Mic laughed. “I guess there’s a lot more than I expected when you transfer over a podcast from Master to Student!” Kyouka also laughed quietly, shaking her head fondly. “But this announcement is one that’s been in the works for years now!”
Kyouka looked towards the door of the studio after hearing it open, watching as the newcomer quietly closed the door behind her before walking over and sitting beside Kyouka. “Eri!” Kyouka exclaimed, throwing her arms around the girl and giving her a tight hug. “It feels like forever since I’ve seen you!”
“Hello, Kyo!” Eri Midoriya responded, giving the girl a hug back just as tight. “I’ve missed you!”
Kyouka released the hug, allowing Eri to put her headphones on her head, Present Mic sliding a microphone in front of her and turning it on. “How’re you doing, Squirt?” Kyouka questioned with a smile on her lips.
“Kyo! I haven’t been your Squirt since I finished UA!” Eri responded a little embarrassed, a dusting of a blush on her cheeks even though she was smiling.
“You’ll always be our little Squirt, Eri.” Kyouka responded, bumping her shoulder against Eri.
Eri smiled fondly back, shaking her head slightly. “UA has been keeping me busy. After Recovery Girl retired, I was hired on as a full time nurse. It’s hard to find time to spend with Kota, let alone see old friends and family outside of UA.”
“Are people still getting hurt that often?” Kyouka questioned. “I remember our first year at UA, Zuku probably spent more time in the medical rooms than anywhere else on campus. I thought things would be different after Kats started teaching.”
“Well…” Eri started off, seeing the chatroom explode with the user GroundZero typing ridiculously fast, causing Eri to giggle at her Uncle’s antics. “Kats definitely puts Class 1-A through the ringer, but surprisingly, they don’t visit as often as the other classes.”
“Are you saying that Kats is actually a good teacher?” Kyouka questioned with a smirk, seeing the chat still exploding with GroundZero’s comments.
“He definitely pushes people to do their best without pushing them beyond their limits.” Eri confirmed. “I’ve been to a few of his classes, and he’s still the same asshole as he always was, but he actually cares for his kids.”
“Oh, don’t let Class 1-A hear you say that! Kats's reputation will be ruined!” Kyouka exclaimed before falling into a fit of giggles, Eri and Present Mic following not far after. “So what brings you to the studio?”
“I’ve been meaning to come to the studio for a while now. Mic gave me an open invite after hearing me practice one day after treating some patients, but I never thought I would have the opportunity to actually perform.”
“Wait!” Kyouka exclaimed with a bit of a surprise. “Do you mean what I think you mean?!”
Eri nodded in excitement. “Ever since I watched you perform all those years ago, I’ve always wanted to sing myself. From that day forward, I made it my goal to perfect my singing and be able to perform one day, hopefully bringing smiles to people with my own voice.”
Kyouka nodded as tears brimmed her eyes. “What were you planning on performing?”
“The one song that changed my life, to first bring a smile to my face, that continues to uplift my spirit every time I watch the recording. The first song I ever remember hearing after my heroes saved my life.” Eri responded, smiling towards Kyouka, finding her happy tears falling. “The Pillars changed my life, and I will always be grateful for everything they’ve done, especially you, Kyouka.”
“Let’s give Eri and DJ Vi a few minutes to get everything setup. I’ll take some questions and callers while we wait!” Present Mic said into his own microphone, having turned off Kyouka’s and Eri’s microphones.
Kyouka didn’t wait and threw her arms back around Eri, giving her a tight hug again. They just held each other while Present Mic delayed it a bit in the background, answering questions to the listeners. “Go kill it, Eri.” Kyouka said quietly, giving her one last squeeze. “I already know that you will.”
Eri pulled back out of the hug, finding Kyouka smiling towards her. “Do you want to join me, Kyo?” Eri questioned quietly. “I’ve always wanted to sing with you.”
Kyouka nodded as a fresh set of happy tears fell down her cheeks. “I would love to, Eri.” A few moments passed before Kyouka turned back towards Present Mic, giving him a nod. “We’re ready, Mic.”
Present Mic nodded in return as he continued talking. “Ladies and Gentlemen, and everything in between! You’re in for a treat tonight! Not only is Eri Midoriya going to perform, but DJ Vi has agreed to sing with her! Get ready for Hero Too by Kyouka Jirou performed live in the studio!”
When Kyouka had finally entered their mansion (and it could only be called a mansion, having been the old Yaoyorozu residence before it was given to Momo), she was completely drained from how late the podcast ran. Taking off her shoes and hanging up her jacket, she slowly retreated towards the area she thought everyone would have been.
Stopping in the doorway to the living room, she found Momo and Ochako cuddling on the couch. Ochako was sitting up and running one hand through Momo’s hair carefully, and Kyouka grinned softly at her wives having a whispered conversation, knowing the reason already. Momo was lying down across the couch, her head resting in Ochako’s lap. They both stopped their conversation, holding up their fingers to their lips before pointing towards the single armchair.
Kyouka nodded as she followed where they were pointing, finding Izuku and Setsuka curled up together on the chair. Kyouka smiled as she moved closer, taking care to step silently before kneeling down in front of them. She extended her jack out and lightly clicked her daughter’s jack, causing her to stir in her sleep. “Momma?” Setsuka asked with sleep in her voice.
“Right here, Songbird.” Kyouka responded, reaching out and grabbing her daughter’s hand.
“You sounded so beautiful, Momma.” Setsuka responded, giving Kyouka’s hand a squeeze and curling more into Izuku’s side. “Daddy was crying.” Kyouka’s heart overflowed with love, knowing how much her husband loved to hear her sing. She smiled at Setsuka calling Izuku ‘Daddy’ in her sleepy state, having not called him that since she started her last year of middle school.
“I bet he was.” Kyouka responded, looking up towards Izuku’s face to find him watching her with a small smile on his face. She could see his tear stained cheeks, but his eyes were full of love and happiness. “Your father always cries when he hears that song, remembering how much it changed our lives.” Kyouka smiled in return.
“Can we go visit Eri?” Setsuka asked, rubbing her eyes now and looking towards Kyouka. “Toshi and Nana always talk about how much she helps their class, but I haven’t been able to see her since school started this year.”
“Of course we can, Songbird.” Kyouka responded.
Using her jack, Kyouka snaked it down and poked Izuku softly in the side, causing him to move over in the chair a little bit. She took the opportunity to sit right beside him, leaning into his side and resting her head on his shoulder. Setsuka responded immediately and moved to hug her, instantly wrapping her own ear jack around Kyouka’s wrist, a mirror image to the one wrapped around Izuku’s wrist. Kyouka followed along, extending her ear jack down towards Izuku’s wrist and placing her own jack beside Setsuka’s. Within moments, Setsuka was back asleep, her breathing slowing down to a steady pace.
“Hero Jukebox, eh?” Izuku questioned quietly, turning his head and giving Kyouka’s crown a kiss.
“You don’t have a say, mister.” Kyouka responded, poking him lightly in the side. “Look at everything you’ve named, MightyBoy.”
Izuku huffed in her hair, causing her to giggle. “You know my Mother helped me create that account, Ms. StereoHeart.”
“I know…” Kyouka responded. “How are Inko and Nemuri? I haven’t been able to call them in a few weeks.”
“They’re doing okay.” Izuku responded, leaning his head back against Kyouka’s head. “They’re still traveling. The last time I spoke with them, I believe they were in Canada.”
“Visiting the polar bears and igloos?” Kyouka questioned with a small giggle, causing Izuku to chuckle and shake Kyouka and Setsuka. Setsuka responded by curling into her parent’s sides more, taking a deeper breath and releasing it, not waking up from her sleep. “Sorry, Songbird.” Kyouka whispered out, running her hand along Setsuka’s hair, causing her to let out a sigh of contentment in her sleep.
“Think we should get her to bed?” Izuku questioned Kyouka, looking down towards Setsuka.
“No.” Kyouka responded with a smile. “It’s been a while since we’ve cuddled like this, and I can only imagine how much our little Songbird has missed cuddling with us.” Kyouka turned her head, giving Izuku a light kiss on the lips. “Because I know how much I’ve missed cuddling with you.”
Izuku chuckled again, shaking both his wife and his daughter. “Good thing I’ve booked off the next few days.” Izuku looked over towards Momo and Ochako still engaged in a light conversation. “And I made sure we all were off the next few days. There’s a lot of cuddling we have to catch up on.” Momo and Ochako must have felt eyes on them because they both looked over towards the trio, giving them a smile with so much love behind it.
“You better be cooking breakfast for us.” Kyouka responded, looking up towards Izuku.
“Of course.” Izuku responded as he looked down towards Kyouka with a small smile. “If I could be here to cook breakfast every morning, you know I would be.”
“Love you, Zuku.”
“Love you too, My Heartbeat.”
