Vanishing Act

Summary:

The Daily Prophet is calling it the Dark Mark curse, Death Eaters’ victims call it justice, Draco doesn’t call it anything. He’s barely 18 and he wants to be in love. No, he wants to feel what it is like to be loved.

Of course he throws money at it to get his way. Of course he throws it at born-in-a-bin Weasley.

Chapter 1: Fangs

Chapter Text

One of the fangs was gone. He double checked, and then triple checked, but his eyes had not deceived him. Not this time.

The previous month, around the same time his family was being acquitted at The Trials, he'd thought one of the snakes markings had disappeared. You see, one becomes quite familiar with the Mark that ruined what should’ve been the last couple of years of your childhood. But by age sixteen, Draco had mastered the art of talking himself out of whatever that wasn't convenient for him, so he managed to tell himself it was his imagination playing him a dreadful trick, it probably had never even been there to begin with.

Now, he would be a fool to deny it, fangs come in pairs.

The left one was still there, the magical ink searing his skin for what just a year ago he would've thought it would be permanently.

He should've felt relief, he should be rejoicing in the knowledge that it was fading. But it wasn't fading, it was vanishing.

He knew, instinctively he just knew, that this absence wasn't a good sign, because why would anything related to him, the Dark Lord, be any good?
