Work Text:

Jake's cravings are out of this world. Jake himself knows that because there's no other plausible explanation to why they're in his favorite bakery almost an hour away from their house at near midnight just because Jake wanted to get chocolate croissants.

Jake had to give it to Heeseung, he's really a good mate to him because no one else would come back home late from work and then try to get some work done and just when they start napping a bit, their mate wakes them up to ask if they can get croissants from the other side of town.

But Heeseung is not complaining. He didn't complain when Jake poked him and meekly asked if he could get some croissants for him and he didn't complain as he dressed them both in warm clothes since it's so much colder now, putting more emphasis on keeping Jake's belly warm and he's not complaining now even when there's a small line inside the shop that's about to close. It seems Jake is not the only one that's craving chocolate croissants.

Because the bakery is relatively small, it's cramped inside already from the people inside so Jake is taking a seat outside on one of their tables that they happily opened up for him even though they'd already started packing for the night. (The sweet benefits of being pregnant.)

He's staring into the bakery, salivating at the array of desserts that look like they've been made to cater to Jake's salivating eyes and mouth.

He's also mostly staring at his mate who is trying to pick some of the desserts for Jake. Heeseung must notice or feel Jake's eyes on him because he turns around swiftly and waves enthusiastically with a large grin on his face.

Jake waves back and giggles to himself, turning around with red cheeks when he notices other people turning around to look at him. He knows it's only a matter of time before Heeseung starts to tell them Jake is his wife even if they didn't ask.

Jake is so immersed in his lovesick mind that he doesn't notice there's someone walking up to him from the side. The only thing that makes the person's presence apparent is their scent. And how it immediately sours Jake's mood because it reeks of a horny unmated alpha.

Jake lifts his head to look at the man and tries not to wince when he meets eyes with the man's face. He's as ugly as his scent.

“Well, hello,” the man says, tucking his  hands into his front pockets. He nods at Jake with a raise of his chin. “Aren't you a beauty?”

Jake wraps his arms around his belly as if trying to protect the baby from this disgusting person. And also because Jake feels uneasy around him.

“Um.. thank you?” He blinks up at him, trying to force out a smile.

The man scratches his head which makes this dry sound and underneath the light of the bakery, Jake can see the way dirt falls from his head.

“No need. Pleasure's all mine. What's a fine thing like you doing here alone?” He asks, turning around to check if there's anyone around except them.

The area is quiet since it's already nearing midnight and most people are asleep but there's still some people here and there.

“My husband's inside,” Jake says, pointing inside the bakery but the man doesn't even look at where Jake is pointing, his eyes roaming over his body.

“That's what they all say,” the man chuckles dryly.

Jake frowns and tilts his head confusedly. “Excuse me?”

“I'm saying I don't believe you, pretty. You don't have to lie,” the man says, stepping closer to Jake. Jake is a little scared and his scent can probably indicate that but he still stands his ground and blinks rapidly, confused.

“I'm not lying though,”

Why would he ever deny Heeseung especially in front of such a disgusting looking man that's already upsetting his stomach just looking at him.

The man steps closer once more and Jake has an awful feeling settling in his chest, silently praying for Heeseung to sense he's in danger somehow and come out.

“Your eyes are so beautiful,” the man says in a low voice and then he strokes the sparse hairs on his chin, trying and failing woefully in appearing charming. “Say, you wanna go out sometime? Grab lunch?”

Jake stares right back at him and raises his voice despite how scared he is. “I just told you my mate is inside. And no, I'm pregnant.”

The man shrugs. “What's that gotta do with me? Whatchu doing after your pregnancy?”

His eyes flit to Jake's belly and he raises his hand to reach for Jake's belly which makes Jake stand from his chair and back up into a rigid chest that smells oddly familiar.

“Baby,” Heeseung's smooth voice resonates against Jake's body and ear. The alpha slides next to him, wrapping his arm around Jake's belly and kissing his ear. Heeseung doesn't register the new person until he's talking to Jake. “They were all out of chocolate croissants. I got you the — who's your friend?”

Jake nuzzles into Heeseung's side and rests his hand on Heeseung's that's resting on his belly.

“A stranger that's just leaving,”

"Here I thought we was bonding," the man tsks and sends Heeseung a glance, blatantly ignoring his existence.

"Hope I'm not intruding," Heeseung says softly, leaning into Jake's space to kiss his ear and litter a few more kisses down the expanse of his neck.

Jake is trying not to giggle at the feeling of Heeseung's lips leaving kisses down his neck at the same time he's trying to fend off the weirdo that's staring at them with a disgusted look on his face.

"There was nothing to intrude," Jake mentions, staring back at the man.

The man sneers and gives Jake a menacing glare. “You ain't gotta send me away. I was going anyway. You ain't that cute now that I think about it.”

Jake can sense the shift in Heeseung's scent when the words leave the man's mouth.

“What?” He asks, raising his brow and stepping closer to the man to make sure he heard him right.

“You heard me, I said he ain't even all that. You can keep him,” the man points at Jake and almost like a flash, Heeseung is grabbing the very finger that's pointing at Jake and he's bending it backwards which pulls out a muffled scream from the man who looks like he's about to cry from the pain of his finger being bent at an awkward angle.

“You'll watch the way you speak about my wife,” Heeseung says, calmly, almost like he wasn't causing any pain to the man he was talking to. His other hand on Jake's belly is gently caressing it. It's a wonder how he can multitask. “Got that?”

The stranger nods rapidly, his hand coming to cradle his finger when Heeseung lets him go.

“Y-yes. Yes, I got that. Just fucking— dammit !” he groans in pain. Heeseung smiles then, almost wickedly as he pats the man's shoulder while the man flinches under the sudden touch.

“You have a good night then,” Heeseung says and turns to Jake. “Let's go, baby?”

Jake immediately reaches for the paper bag that Heeseung had dropped on the table in favor of scaring the man away.

“Mhm,” the omega hums to himself as he pries the brown bag open to reveal the treats inside.

“He didn't hurt you or anything, did he?” Heeseung asks, patting down Jake's head and tucking some strands behind his ear.

“Mm. What did you get in place of the chocolate croissant?” Jake doesn't even look up as he asks, feeling with his hand for the croissants he's been craving.

“This pistachio one they had,” Heeseung mutters. His fingers run over Jake's neck, lightly brushing over his mating mark. “He didn't touch you, did he?”

“That sounds delicious ,” Jake groans as he fishes out one of the pistachio croissants and takes a small nibble out of it.

Heeseung abruptly stops them and turns Jake so Jake is looking at him with his wide eyes with crumbs of the croissant over his lips.

“Baby, I'm trying to make sure you're safe but all you're concerned about is the desserts.” Heeseung says with a small chuckle and wipes Jake's mouth with the back of his fingers.

Jake sighs and chews faster. He swallows down before he speaks next.

“I'm sorry. Yes, hyung, I'm fine. No, he didn't touch me or even try to and you came right on time anyway,” he recites and Heeseung seems satisfied with his answer because he pats his head and leans down to kiss the side of his mouth.

“Good,” Heeseung mumbles. He takes Jake's free hand in his own hand and kisses the back of it. “Maybe you don't smell mated enough.”

“My belly is enough sign of our mating, Heeseung,” Jake chuckles as he takes another bite of his croissant.

“I'm just saying,” Heeseung chuckles as he points to the Uber car on the other side of the road waiting for them.

“You just want to scent me, don't you?” Jake chuckles as they walk over to the car.

“You know the answer to that,” Heeseung leans down to answer.

Jake takes a few seconds to reply but when he does, Heeseung's eyes widen a fraction.

“Wait till we get home,” Jake mumbles as Heeseung takes a picture of the back of the car for safety purposes before they get in.

“Why?” Heeseung asks, as if he doesn't already know the answer to that since he's smirking.

“Because. I want my clothes off when you do,” Jake says innocently as Heeseung opens the door for him and he gives the driver a small “hello” while Heeseung is distressed behind him, taking some few seconds before he gets into the car with Jake.
