Chapter 1: Game Night

Chapter Text

Aomine sighed and sat down on the couch, facing Kagami, looking at the games he had.

“What do you want to play?” Kagami asked, putting his hands on his hips and analyzing what he had in front of him.

“You don’t even know what you to play? This game night was your idea!” Aomine complained, lying down on the couch and grabbing a cushion to put over his head.

“I don’t know what you like. You would’ve complained if I suggested something you didn’t like. C’mon, now that you’ve agreed you can put a little effort!

- I don’t even know why I agreed to this…”

In fact, he agreed because Kagami told him they weren’t doing enough as a couple, which is true. Eating, basketball and sex was their usual routine, and Aomine didn’t have anything to add to this. However, his handsome boyfriend who never complains about anything but Aomine’s cleanness, started to say something about wanting to try new things; and Aomine, with his big heart, allowed them to play games together before going to bed.

The truth is, Aomine was scared to see Kagami get bored and leave him, so he agreed. But now he had to face his saying, and it was more difficult than he thought.

“I don’t care, you agreed, so now help me find a game!

- Ugh… I don’t know… What do you have?

- Uh… a card game?” Kagami mumbled, shoving his hand through different boxes.

“Wanna do a strip poker?” Aomine smirked, lifting the cushion to glance at his boyfriend.

“No, Daiki! We’re supposed to keep it childish, stop trying to put sex everywhere!” Kagami sighed, putting the card game away.

“Ugh, you’re not fun…” Aomine sighed, turning around to lay on his stomach.

“I bet you don’t even know how to play poker.

- Of course I do!”

He didn’t.

“What do you think of the twister?” Kagami demanded, putting a new box out of the cupboard.

“I know it,” Aomine shrugged, yawning silently.

“Great, let’s do it then.”

Kagami opened the carpet with the red, yellow, green and blue circles, joined with the spin to know which hand and foot had to go where. Aomine took his time to stand up and join him on the ground.

“Wanna start?”

Aomine shrugged and spined the wheel. “Right hand on Kise,” he announced, getting a little slap on the shoulder for the bad joke.

Kagami spined the wheel as well and had to put his left foot on the red. They continued for a little while until Aomine was under Kagami.

“Crazy how I always end up below you, uh?” he smirked, spinning the wheel and having to put his hand behind him, facing Kagami from under.

“What did I tell you about keeping it childish?” Kagami sighed, putting his right foot farther away.

Suddenly, Kagami’s sock slipped and he fell headfirst on Aomine’s face who wasn’t paying attention. He only had time to hold his forehead and curse when he saw blood, which wasn’t his.

“Fuck, Daiki, are you okay?” he panicked, sitting up and checking his boyfriend’s bloody nose.

“Ugh, of course not…” Aomine groaned, rushing to the toilet to put his head over the sink and clean his nose.

Kagami followed him just behind, looking at the mirror to make sure nothing was broken. He stayed between the door and Aomine, knowing that his boyfriend was pissed enough and saying something would only add up to his anger.

He felt stupid. He was the one who suggested this game night, Aomine clearly agreed to make him happy, and he was thanking him by hurting him.

“I’m sorry Daiki, it was a bad idea, I shouldn’t have suggested this game night. You’re right, our routine is fine, we don’t have to force ourselves to act like other couples,” he apologized awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.

Aomine stayed silent for a while which increased Kagami’s worry. His hand reached his back to soothe it in a clumsy way, trying to catch his attention. “Are you mad at me?”

“I’m not,” Aomine answered in a weird voice, because he tried too hard to stop himself from crying in pain. He sighed and turned around when he was sure his nose had stopped running. “I told you we should’ve done a strip poker.”

Kagami chuckled, relieved to see his boyfriend was still making jokes. “We should’ve, you’re right,” he smiled, cupping his boyfriend’s face and checking for some wounds.

“Next time?” Aomine asked.

“You’re still up for it? We don’t have to play games again if you don’t want to… I just want to try new things, whatever it is.”

Kagami thought Aomine would be happy to hear that he didn’t care about games that much and that they could do other things, but instead his face darkened. Kagami frowned and looked for an answer in his eyes, getting scared.

“Are you getting bored of me?” Aomine asked, with a faint smile, trying to hide his vulnerability.

Kagami’s heart missed a beat. “HA?!” was the only thing that escaped his mouth. He switched from one eye to the other to see some kind of joke, but nothing was there. “What are you talking about?”

“I like our routine the way it is, and I thought you liked it too. But now you want to try many different things and I’m wondering if it’s because you’re getting bored of me… or of what I’m giving you,” Aomine mumbled, trying to stay honest and not run away from shame of showing himself being insecure.

“Daiki, not at all!” Kagami panicked, grabbing his shoulders. “I’m not getting bored of you or anything, it’s just that—” he stopped, actually thinking of what he wanted to say and how to say it.

He took a deep breath and continued. “It’s just that I never had the opportunity to try new things with someone. When I was in Los Angeles, my dad didn’t really have time to play with me, and my few friends were only thinking about basketball and messing around,” he explained, steadily. “I want to try new things with you, because I know you can give me the strength to do something out of my comfort zone. I want to make new memories, and I want you to be in them.”

He could feel his chest getting lighter, as if he was freeing himself from a burden. He even released a sigh, glad to be able to say all this without shame.

Aomine’s cheeks were all pink now, as if he was the one who said all this. He wasn’t used to hear people praising him face to face, and he was feeling a mix of awkwardness and pride.

“You’re so corny,” he mumbled. “But okay, I guess I can get out of my comfort zone too… As long as I don’t end up bleeding each time!”

Kagami smile grew brighter. “I’ll make sure not to hurt you anymore,” he promised. He wrapped his arms around his neck and kissed his jaw. “Thank you for this.”

“What wouldn’t I do for you?” Aomine sighed and hugged Kagami back, smiling softly.
