After Ryuk writes Light's name at the Yellowbox Warehouse, Light finds a way to both stay alive and keep his memories: Become the shinigami King's treasured possession.
Ryuk might be more disturbed by Light's trade than Light is. But, the King's willing to share, and he's never seen Light this agreeable and into sex, so... he'll keep his complaints to himself.
