I can’t believe I hadn’t left a comment on the first read of this fic. God, it’s one of the best-written in the entire fandom. How aren’t there more comments or kudos?! It’s criminal!! The character voices, banter, characterization, descriptions of skating, are so vivid!
(Also yes, I remember pagers! I think you’re also one of the few who is writing actual ERA-accurate fic!! The avoiding fraying the JNCOs is so real. I don’t think I saw my first scene kid til maybe 2005-2006)

Growing up in a midwest small town, there was so much novelty to scene culture, but its growth was sooooo slow. Definitely NOT yet popular enough to be seen around my hometown, especially in 1999 or 2000

i was a suburban west coast kid, but think i was too caught up with the hipsters/goths/weebs/asian alt communities to realize they were scene-adjacent lol. maybe i’d seen proto-scene kids and never realized!
