johnny cades lost letters .
johnny wrote each of the gang + cherry and randy a personalized letter , the gangs are an explanation of how the relationship with the member affected him and how much it meant to him , basically how it brightened up his life . the ones to cherry and randy are about how sorry he is about everything that happened with bob , and how he wished that everything could have played out better .
the premise is that these letters were lost in the hospital in a batch of johnnys belongings , they most likely got thrown away or misplaced , the gang and cherry and randy never knew that these letters existed , but johnny died thinking that his true feelings would get out to everyone that he trusted with them . soda and two-bit never knew how much their jokes affected johnny , how much happier they made him . cherry and randy never knew how sorry he was . darry never knew how much johnny looked up to him , how he saw him as the big brother he never had . steve never knew how much johnny actually liked him , how tuff he thought he was . dally and ponyboy never knew how much he genuinely loved them , how they were his fuel to live .
