Summary
Questioning how a Pokéballs worked felt a bit like asking how a door worked-pointless when you saw them open and close so many times a day they were basically invisible. Holding a Pokéball that he'd made himself gives Lucas a sudden moment of consideration for the object, and if a nut and a soft stone is really all it takes to make them.

Akari took another bite of potato mochi. “…So, you think that you’re on a mission from a god and that he wants you to be a researcher?”
Lucas made a face. “When you say it like that, it sounds stupid.”
“Yes. It does a bit, doesn’t it,” Akari said.

Summary
Lucas lay on the ground, staring up into the sky, and had regrets about the choices that had brought him here. It turned out that maybe trying to climb a cliff face, in a light rain shower, even if it hadn't looked that steep, might not have been the best choice.
The broken leg he'd gotten from this choice, certainly added weight to the theory.

Summary
Two ticking pieces of information in a void of white. His name was Ingo, and something was missing.
There must be a reason that he was here. A man could hardly just accidentally ended up near a hundred miles from the coast in clothes not suited to the snow and nothing but the contents of his pockets on him.
But still, that was how Ingo arrived in the Hisui region.

Summary
The best way to befriend wild Pokémon, in Lucas's opinion, was to find a family community of them and offer food. This was uncomplicated enough so that when Professor Laventon proposed that he be the one to visit the family of Eevees, along with the other Pokémon, Lucas couldn't see reason to object. Not, at least, while he was still only partly mobile, thanks to the recently broken leg.
Factors complicate this simple mission to offer berries and friendship, but only moderately, and Captain Cyllene solves most promptly.

Summary
The Kanto-Johto war lasted seventeen years, but historians would later agree that the assassination of the Emperor was the key event that would lead to the downfall of the Johto Empire and the lead to lose of control over the Kanto region. Either way it was counted, the years between the assassination and the final end of the war three decades later would be known later as the bloodiest period in the regions joint history.
Beni spent most of this time cooking, trying to see to it that the people he cared about didn't die, and trying to ignore how world kept trying to set itself on fire about him, piece by piece.

Summary
In the last few weeks, Lucas had thought a lot about his mission in Hisui and how he would get home afterwards. Accidental circumstance finally prompted him to consider if asking Warden Mai if she might know anything of Hisui or Almighty Sinnoh which might help guide him.
After all, the hero from myth had disappeared from history after the story ended and after a meeting with Almighty Sinnoh.
Maybe there was hints that this had happened before.

Summary
With the monotony of winter, the weekly staff meetings had fallen into a predictable pattern that required only a report of how the already agreed-on tasks were progressing. The only thing winter had to offer was cold, snow and long days of waiting for spring.
Captain Cyllene uses this time to think about the future, fend off an rampaging Pokémon along with her Alpha Scyther who adopted her as a trainer against her will, and argues with a lot of people over what their future should look like.

Summary
Reading aura was to see the reflection of that moment in time. Yet Old Grey found that Aura just muddied up his otherwise perfectly functional senses. The hearts of most creatures were straightforward enough, and his eyes and ears were better for details.
Still, this wasn't to say he didn't feel the tug of aura, just that it wasn't Pokémon or human aura which captivated his attention.
The world had aura too and there was something deeply and fundamentally wrong with it.

Akari had no idea how a simple question to Captain Cyllene had spiraled out of control so quickly as to end with her going on patrol with the Commander to 'help you bond better with your Pikachu so you two stop causing property damage'.
The universe punishing her for some secret crime was as good explanation as any.

Summary
The trouble with winter was that limited hours of daylight and a ease from the constant work of running Galaxy, meant the hours between sleeping grew difficult to fill.
Games were as good as any way to pass the hours while waiting for spring, and avoiding thinking about warmer days past. But that didn't make Kamado enjoy them. But like a great deal of things, it was more harder to avoid playing then to accept it as an inevitable and unavoidable trouble.

Summary
Old Grey the Lucario knows a great deal of madness from observation. Sitting near enough to those individuals, he's found that the madness of humans and Pokemon look much the same - and no matter that masks and illusions hide some of what lies below, they can also tell a great deal about what someone wants to bury under them.
