Summary
Bruce steps first, heavy and purposeful, testing the ground beneath him. New and fresh coats of snow can be misleading, hiding holes and rocks and cracks in the mountain's edge. Bruce is meticulous to make sure the path he's taking is safe for him and Damian.
Yet, somehow, he misses it. By only a few inches to the left.
He pulls forward, tugging encouragingly at the rope around his waist for his son to follow. Damian does. Robin always follows Batman.
And then Robin falls.
(Damian is going on a self-discovery journey to the Alps, Bruce tags along.)

Summary
There is no Batman present with Damian at this moment. Just him, his father, and the danger of everything they won't tell each other about what it means to be a family.
"Oh," father grumbles in a low and gravelly voice that is slightly different to his tone as Batman, but not entirely, his eyes flickering down to where he's holding Damian's wrist, and then back up at his son, "You couldn't sleep, Damian?"
Father isn't pulling away now that he's awake, so Damian doesn't either, "I apologise for waking you."
"You didn't, son," Father lies, looking down at their hands again.
(Late night promises between a father and son.)

"If you find that name acceptable?"
Bruce had long assumed that the Wayne surname would die with him, and he'd sooner forfeit all his wealth than curse his children with the enormous weight that comes with it. All of Gotham's sins, her tragedies and her mistakes will forever be associated with the infamous Wayne's for as long as his family lives on this city's soil.
The name was cursed, he's sure, to give everyone who had it a short and painful life.
But then, came Damian.
(Bruce gives Damian his name.)
