Summary
Itachi is a shinobi. He lives, he serves, he fights, and he obeys. It is not a life he wants - not a light burden, or one that can be tossed aside as the heir to his clan. He is a pawn. A tool. To be human is a callously hopeful dream he cannot bear to consider while his family wades through a self-crafted political quagmire.
He is drowning. He is flying. Itachi wraps bruised knuckles and tries not to feel like a crow with broken wings. Sasuke deserves better. Shisui is steadily absent more often, and the elders are starting to claw their way to a coup. Itachi is backed into a corner with no way out.
Meanwhile, Shikamaru has traveled back through time and is quietly dismantling the Akatsuki for funsies, but this story isn’t about him.

Summary
Shikamaru falls through time.
Darkness splits open.
The Nara caught between the living world and the spiritual one claws at life itself, desperate reach sinking into thick, tar-like shadows. Ink burns. Weighted barriers of yang chakra press against him, shoving what it believes should not pass out of the spiritual planes back towards the Pure Lands.
But Shikamaru was named as a reminder: what is gone can come back.

Summary
Shikamaru has given up his name, his clan, his home. All to change time. Plots and strategies are put into motion, nations are felled and grown, and a nukenin bounty hunter wanders through every elemental country. He has no place to call home.
Itachi also gains an emotional support nukenin and learns that maybe killing his family isn’t the best idea, but this story isn’t about him.
(This work takes place at roughly the same time as the first fic in the series. You do not have to read that fic first to understand it.)
