Summary
“We talk. You can’t hurt me while we talk, and I can’t gossip about your juicy secret. And then maybe you ask me to do something right now, but I don’t gotta?” Angel checked.
“That is the gist of it, yes.” Alastor confirmed, holding out his hand.
“Ugh. You’re a goddamn sadist, Al, yankin’ my chain like this,'' Angel shifted to free a hand from cradling his pig. “But sure, whatever backdoor you have to screw me over, I can’t see it. Deal.”
-
The failed friendship Alastor had with Vox left a deep emotional scar that he had pointedly ignored, until an over-heard conversation brings it to his attention, and it happened to be Angel Dust, of all people to make him confront it.

Summary
What should Alastor do with the revelation that Charlie was capable of soul magic? He could teach her. He could show her how to reach out with her power and have dominion over the souls of others. Of course, she would never use that knowledge for subjugation. That wasn't her way. She would, however, be very willing to break deals. Therein was both the appeal and the rub. His own deal weighed heavy on his soul. The power of it was a writhing thing, barbed, biting into him when he paid it the slightest attention. He could be free of it at the potential cost of all the souls he owned. Of every owned soul in Hell.
-
Alastor will learn that weakness and strength are not opposites, that honesty can win allies better than lies, and that giving up some of what he wants can lead to gaining what he really needs. First he needs to be honest with himself about the growing sentiment he is harboring.
An exploration of a low-empathy person choosing to value connection and the intrigue of deals with the power to change the foundations of Hell.
