Summary
From around the corner, a figure steps from her portal. Green, purple, bright red hair, scanning the mushroom kingdom until her eyes fall on Shrub’s. Not an evil spirit.
“Shrub Berry,” the Wizard Gemini says, giant leather-bound book under one arm and staff in the other hand, lifting the brim of her hat with one forearm, “I need you so badly right now.”
-- shrub hasn't slept, xornoth is out there, and gem has a way with words.

Summary
“Gem,” Scott says, quiet. Half-muffled across the wall separating them. “Checking in.”
“Haven’t died,” Gem manages. The words scratch her throat on the way out, voice hoarse and ragged. She doesn’t even remember screaming, though. Most of it’s just a blur. It’s all hazy now, like the first film of ice just settling over a river.
“We should, uh.” Scott stutters; she barely catches a shuddering breath. “Probably try to talk to me more, okay? I don’t know if you should be dozing off, or zoning out or—You know. I think it’s supposed to be a bad idea to sleep with a head injury.”

Summary
Something sharp pricks at the inside of his chest. “What are you doing here, Xornoth?”
The demon flinches. It’s slight, barely noticeable save the ripple in silvery liquid light around its shoulders. When it speaks, the voice carries the same harsh grating cacophony Scott is familiar with, as if three voices speak at once, but now there’s a quieter depth to it. As if two voices have faltered, leaving the third alone.
It says, “Waiting.”
