Summary
Hitting the button, Gojo brought the phone to his ear as his mind ran through a million different scenarios. Was Megumi lying broken and bleeding on the street after having been run over by a car as he attempted to walk home by himself? Or perhaps a cursed spirit sensed the kid's cursed energy and attacked him. Gojo had only recently begun training Megumi to use ten shadows and summon shikigami; training which was nowhere near ready for the kid to defend himself against any threats.
Bracing for the worst, Gojo wasn't prepared for the first sound he heard to be that of a strange man talking.

He'd rest his body for a few minutes, enough to make it home without passing out.

With that, operation Ensure Megumi Wins the Spelling Bee commenced. Gojo quizzed Megumi the entire way to school, throwing out whatever ridiculously long and complicated words he could think of. Megumi barely knew one-fourth of them, and even then, he had no idea what they meant, let alone how to spell them. Gojo reasoned that if Megumi knew how to spell complicated words, then the simpler ones should be a breeze. Megumi reasoned that Gojo was dropped on his head as a baby.

His mother, father, Tsumiki, and even Yuji for a short time. Megumi had lost so much in such a short time. Gojo had sworn to Megumi and himself that he'd always be there, that he wouldn't end up like his father, who failed him.
In the end, Gojo turned out just like him.

Skidding to a halt, Gojo reached back and grabbed a fistful of Megumi's hoodie, holding him in place just as the curse came bursting out of the treeline.

Summary
Sipping more of his cocoa, Gojo moved to stand in front of one of the windows overlooking the city. With the power out and the sun just barely cresting over the horizon, the usually well-lit streets were bathed in darkness. In the distance, Gojo spotted a few headlights creeping through the streets. No doubt, the snowplows going about their business. It all seemed futile, given the amount of snow still falling.
It'd be a miracle if they manage to get on with their normal lives before the week was through. Not that Gojo was complaining too much. If it weren't for the power outage, he would have considered this storm a blessing. Even the higher-ups were capable of showing mercy now and again, and a storm like this meant a zero chance of him being called away for some mission. It may not have been the best circumstances, but still, it meant a few days of uninterrupted time with his favorite kids.

The last time…there was a time after Shinjuku when Megumi tried hiding within a shadow to evade a high-grade curse. He made Nobara and Yuji promise never to tell Gojo what happened, knowing he'd never live through the shame.
It was pathetic, Megumi knew that better than anyone. His entire technique, the one thing that made him worthy of being a jujutsu sorcerer, depended on shadows. Yet Megumi couldn't even stand to look at them, his own shadow no longer a tool, but rather a source of discomfort he could never rid himself of. Whenever he looked, all he'd see were glowing red eyes, forever taunting him.

With no more time to waste, Tsumiki brushed her teeth while Gojo worked on her pigtails. Admittedly, Gojo was in a bit of a rush, wanting to get them all out the door as soon as possible, and thought that a couple of pigtails would be a breeze. After all, all it required was putting two bunches of hair through a couple of hair ties.
By the time Tsumiki finished brushing her teeth, Gojo was already done and whipping out his phone to check the time. The second he saw what time it was, Gojo's mind was racing to figure out the quickest route to their school. It was probably why he didn't even notice—not until Megumi popped his little head in.

Over the years, Gojo learned how to read Megumi like a book. If he thought the kid was interested in something, something he found embarrassing, all Gojo had to do was tease him about it. Whether Megumi was actually interested or not, he always responded with the same insistent denial. However, when Megumi actually was interested, he'd blush—everything from his cheeks to the tips of his ears turning bright red.
It was as cute as it was telling.
That's why, when Megumi and Yuji got together a few weeks after the Shinjuku incident, Gojo wasn't the least bit surprised. He'd already figured out months before that Megumi had a crush on Yuji. We're talking a few days after those two kids first met. Of course, Gojo had relentlessly teased Megumi about it the second he had his suspicions. As for Yuji, anyone with a functioning pair of eyes could see how in love with Megumi the boy was—like a love-sick puppy, but cuter.

As their guide led them through the downstairs portion of the house, Megumi quickly caught on to what she was doing. She'd direct the group's attention to various props and locations before giving cues to the actors lying in wait. Everything from tacky ghouls to blood-covered serial killers jumped out from behind false panels and perfectly positioned drapes. They screamed loud enough to make Megumi wince; the chorus of screams that followed just as annoying.
Gojo appeared to be having a much better time than Megumi. With every cue from the guide, Gojo would grin excitedly as he braced himself for whatever 'horror' popped up next. While the others screamed, Gojo would laugh or, worst of all, egg on the actor with his goofy antics.

It reminded Megumi of a mangy coyote with snapping jaws and loose skin folds that hung like thick curtains. Moving fast, Megumi summoned a few of his rabbit shikigami, allowing them to take the brunt of the curse's attack.

Megumi's forearm was noticeably swollen, his skin painted black and blue all the way past his elbow. The worst appeared to be his wrist, which had blown up like a balloon. Without warning, whatever was outside hit the door without enough force to make it rattle. Megumi flinched back, his eyes widening as another strike came, followed by a third. It continued the same way the knocking had, never changing pace. All the while, Megumi could feel the unfamiliar cursed energy seeping through the cracks. Megumi really hoped it was Gojo playing some cruel prank.
As suddenly as it had started, the knocking stopped. Megumi held his breath as he listened carefully. He nearly jumped out of his skin when the phone in the kitchen suddenly rang. Hurrying over, Megumi grabbed a nearby stool and used it to reach the phone hanging on the wall. He never took his eyes off the door as he answered.
"Hello?"
