Summary
“You’re the Batman,” Clark said, trying to keep his voice warm, even. “I’ve heard about you.”
Still no response. The wings shifted slightly, the sound low and dry, like wind moving through bone.
Even folded, they loomed. Easily twelve, maybe fourteen feet in total wingspan. The joints flexed with subtle micromovements, like the Bat was resisting the urge to spring forward or flee. And the texture… rough, almost scaly, with no sign of feathers. All tendon and membrane. Like something prehistoric.
Clark felt a shiver crawl down his spine.
It wasn’t fear. Not exactly.
“I’ve been looking for you,” he said, taking a cautious step forward, hands open at his sides. “Not you you, I mean. Others like me. Metas. People doing the right thing on their own terms.”
No answer.
“I thought you’d be taller,” he added, offering a small grin.
Nothing. Not even a twitch.
“Or… less grim.”
Or, Bruce's time over the years, gaining children, loosing them, joining the JL, all while the JL is under the impression that the man in the batsuit is some sort of cryptid.

Dick’s stomach dropped. His fingers went cold.
The fifth message was broken. Static, then something sharp.
“Dick. There’s something—someone—Joker. I think it’s Joker. I— I can’t—legs—fuck—”
Click.
His lungs froze. His mouth parted but no breath came.
He didn’t want to hit play on the sixth.
But his hand moved anyway.
A cough. Wet. A harsh, rattling breath.
Then the sickening clang of metal on something soft. Flesh? Bone?
Jason gasping.
“Tell B—I didn’t— Dick I—”

Summary
He was lying still on the metal table, his arms rested delicately along his sides like folded paper. Like someone had tried to make it look peaceful—make him look presentable. But Dick knew better. He knew that silence. That stillness. He’d seen too many bodies, too many ends.
But not this one. Not his.
“No,” Dick breathed. The word escaped like it had been punched from his gut. His head tilted to the side, slow and trembling, like his neck couldn’t hold the weight of what he was seeing.
“No…”
It came again, softer. Smaller. Like maybe if he whispered it, the universe would agree.
But it didn’t.
“No. No…” His voice cracked on the second one. Shook. His chest hitched as he took a shaky step forward. “No. No—no—”
A scrapped chapter on what could’ve happened if Bruce had called and told Dick Jason died.
