Summary
All teenage boys like video games, it’s a universal truth and he’d die on that hill. But Wayne never seemed like much of a teenage boy to him. And it wasn’t until that moment that he’d bothered to think about why. Truthfully, Wayne had always been a bit of a monstrous concept. Not just to Orlando, but to their class, their school, the city. There wasn't much else you could call someone lacking so blatantly in emotional capacity outside of violent aggravation.
But looking at him in the moment, Wayne was walking with the same nonchalance as always, expression almost content. Orlando remembered the way he’d looked that day outside the restaurant with his brother. And looking at him in the moment, he was just as much a teenage boy as him or anyone else.
started as a character study for Orlando, then a study of his friendship with Wayne. Ended up with 5.7K words about the two boys at two times in their lives, being each other's first friend, and contemplating what it means to have a brother.
