watch out for WARNINGS! This story can get pretty dark at some point, but it will all work out for the better, eventually, hopefully.

Summary
Warrior braids.
It is an old Asgardian tradition. The braids are reserved for the most distinguished warriors, indicating their high status. When they were little, Odin had chastised them for braiding each other’s hair when they played warrior. “You will only receive your braids when you are worthy.”
Loki had long since given up on the idea of ever receiving his braids, but he knew Thor had learnt all the techniques, just in case.
“Do you like them?” Thor asks again, looking at him expectantly, one hand brushing over one of the braids subconsciously.
Loki realises too late he had been staring at his brother for a moment too long before he answers. “No.”
It is not a fair response, and it is a lie, led by the jealousy swirling in his stomach.~~~
In which Thor loses his warrior braids, and Loki deals with the fallout.
Or, author saw Thor freaking out about cutting his hair in Ragnarok and said "yes make this angst"

Written for a prompt on the Thor Kinkmeme on LJ: "Odin doesn’t fall into the Odin-sleep when Loki confronts him about being a Jotun, so Loki doesn’t go totally off the rails. BUT, let’s face it, Odin’s not exactly the most comforting guy around, and Loki is still feeling pretty down on this whole 'my life is a lie' thing, so he sneaks off to Midgard to visit Thor, hoping to figure this shit out.
Thor is sitting around being a mope in that S.H.I.E.L.D. place after not being able to lift his hammer.
THEN... yeah! Uh. Just want to see Loki in a vulnerable position emotionally at the same time as Thor, I guess. Could be gen too. Hugs all around! Or something."
