Her brothers freeze, eyes going wide.
"Kay, what do you mean?" Dean asks hoarsely
"John found out while the two of you were on your own hunt," Kay begins "he nearly killed me in that Motel room, but then he saw how fast some of the injuries healed and how much it took him to really hurt me."
"Kay, that-" Sam croaks but Kay speaks over him as if he never spoke.
"He told me then and there that I had only one reason for living and that was to make sure you two lived no matter the cost of myself," the boys got paler as she spoke, "you were never to know." Kay laughs bitterly then, "You know those times he would get super drunk and angrier than we've ever seen him?" They nod mutely, "He always waited until the two of you were gone before he would take his anger out on me. He could never bring himself to actually hit the two of you, me though? I wasn't really one of his children, I was a monster and that's all a monster like me was good for and deserved." -

“Hey, Dunk,” the boy says, his almost purple eyes flickering to the knight at his side. Ser Duncan merely hums in response. “I think I finally found out who they were trying to ransom me to,” the boy says, and Baelor’s breath catches.
“What?” Ser Duncan asks, furrowing a brow.
“The bad guys, when you and Ser Arlan found me, remember?” the boy asks, his eyes still flitting over Baelor’s face. “Didn’t you say that Prince Matarys went missing around the same time?” Ser Duncan stills, then he buries his head in his hands with a groan.
“Rys,” Ser Duncan says eventually, looking up with a long-suffering sigh. “That’s not your name, is it?”
“No,” the boy, Rys, says, sounding reluctant. “I’m not sure it ever was.”

It did not matter what Aerys thought about the name. If it was the name of the person solely made to be Baelor's other half, then everything about them was for Baelor's sake. Not for Aerys', nor for his opinions. Dunk surely was the greatest, kindest, and most honourable person in the world.
Names could be simple, names could be complex, names could be deceptive. The will of the Gods was not always so straightforward.
