Summary
“It’s 2025. We’re in Paris, France. My name is Jake Lockley; we’ve never met before, but you looked distressed, so I wanted to help, if I could.”
She still looks confused. “2025… in the Christian years?” she asks, slowly.
Who even is this woman? “Yes. It’s 5785 in the Hebrew calendar, if that helps.”

The Adventures of Stede the Dog and Edward the Cat by Acorn_Squash
Fandom Our Flag Means Death (TV)
22 Jun 2022
Summary
A series where Stede is a poorly trained dog, Ed is a former street cat, and lovers Oluwande and Jim are their long-suffering humans.
I've written more in this universe, so I can update this if anyone's ever interested, but I think it stands alone okay.

Summary
“If it hatches before we reach land in two months, Lieutenant Laurence will make the attempt.” Barstowe’s watery blue eyes gleamed. As if Laurence had voiced an objection, he said, “I cannot spare the other lieutenants, nor can I let a midshipman leap so high in position, even if it is to an inferior service. You will harness the beast.”
Laurence found his voice and said, with steadiness that surprised even him, “I am perfectly willing to try. However, I have not been trained in any of the methods used in the Corps.”
“You’d best figure them out, then,” Barstowe said. He smiled, revealing his yellowed teeth. Laurence felt his mouth tighten, and refused to drop his gaze. “After all, failing to harness such a valuable beast could only be called a betrayal to his Majesty, and you’d have to face the consequences.”

Bookmarker's Notes
by tardigradeschool
“At least no one can say he is not loyal. Has he been like that since hatching? Some dragons are, although heavyweights are usually steadier by nature.”
“Not since hatching,” Laurence said, feeling an urge to defend Temeraire. “He is quite steady. No, I am afraid that he -- learned about naval discipline the hard way. He saw me whipped, when he was scarcely a month out of the shell, and since has been unfortunately overprotective.”
Captain Roland, who had been slouching back in her seat in a decidedly unladylike manner, sat forward, brows knitting as she stared at him. “He saw you whipped ?” she said, an edge of disbelief creeping into her voice.
