What your soulmate thinks about you the hardest or the most appears on your body as writing. But there is often a duality to it before soulmates find each other—What they think of their unknown soulmate, and what they think of you as a person. And sometimes the gap between the two can be a painful chasm, too wide for the one in the know to dare to try to cross.

When Madara awoke, he had expected darkness.
Caught off guard on a mission gone awry, injured, and trapped in a blizzard, he had been easy pickings for a party of Hagoromo Kekeii Genkai traders. Though he put up a fight, it was ultimately useless. He was poisoned, his eyes taken, and then left to bleed out in the snow. He had expected death at best, and blindness at worst.
He had not expected to wake up in his clan's medical ward, eyes still fixed in his skull, healed, and with a fresh soul mark on his cheek.

Summary
Tobirama was born a little...different, the child of things far older and deeper than mortal ken, and as he grew his Wrath grew with him; birthing the silent warnings passed through Fire against touching children (and, some said, Uchiha Madara's hair), the warnings to stay away from deep waters when your blade was wet with the blood of a child for you never knew what was looking out of the waters - or what might taste the blood.

Tobirama’s desperate attempt to escape death could be called an undeniable success... unless you take into account that he ended up in the wrong time and in the wrong world, where the Senju clan isn’t doing so great and his own body is unfamiliar to him.
