    “Lost contact?” Hayden asks, his tone a mix of concerned and confused. “What’s that mean? Like they lost their ability to communicate? Won’t that make landing hard?”

    J.J. frowns. “I do not think they will be landing,” he says solemnly.

    A memory loss fic where Shane gets hit hard in the head and wakes up in the hospital. He thinks he is 27, sneaking around with Ilya and still in the closet, only to learn that they are married.

    Tears spilled down his mother's cheeks. “No, honey, you’re not twenty seven. You're twenty nine. Almost thirty.”

    Shane snorted. “That can’t—”

    “It is, sweetheart. And Ilya is…”

    She glanced at the door where two large shadows stood just beyond the frosted glass window. The shorter one embraced the much, much taller one.

    Shane’s heart started beating frantically in his chest. His head pounded as he tried to take in what he was hearing, tried to process what the fuck his mother was saying to him.

    “Ilya,” he squeaked. “Ilya is what?”

    “Ilya is your husband.”

    Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.

    It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.

    Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.

    Right???

    Jackie is quiet for a moment. “You can’t fix all of it.”

    He turns his head. “I know. I just—” He stops, starts again. “If there was a way, though. If there was some actual way to undo it, I’d do every single thing. I wouldn’t even complain.”

    “I don’t believe that second part.”

    He smiles despite himself. “Okay, fine. I’d complain the entire time, but I’d still do it.”

    If there was a way.

    If there was any way at all.

    After accidentally outing Shane and Ilya, Hayden finds a way to go back and undo the damage. He only means to fix one terrible mistake. Instead, he changes far more than he understands.
