I look down at my white dress. My ridiculous white dress.
Stupid, stupid dress on a stupid, stupid girl. I want to burn the dress or shred it. Destroy it and never think of it again. I don’t even remember being happy when I got it.
I was standing on that pedestal, and it was the 10th dress I had tried that week. The girls behind me cheered when I came out. This dress was slim and simple, and it was the one that made me the least uncomfortable to look at in the mirror. It still felt wrong, but it felt the least wrong of all of them. I figured I wouldn’t find anything better, so I picked it. That’s how everything leading to this moment went. Just picking what made me the least uncomfortable.
