Summary
Then he tells her about the love-sea disease, drowning for someone who may not do the same. He asks her why does the sea do that, why does the sea take? Why is it so full of monsters and loss? And he pauses, remembering the citrus in the air as yellowing pages cocoon him in images of sailors’ puffy bodies with bulging, white eyes and mermaids with sand leaking from their gills. His voice wobbles to the beat of unrelenting waves beyond the kingdom.
“Will it take me too?”
And his mother holds him closer, opening up her chest to bury him amongst the other treasures she keeps. She promises him that the ocean would not let any of their own suffer, my little sea angel. Her chest opens further and a gleaming pearl glistens under Sanji’s admiration.
The sea will always give you what you need.
Sanji nods, easing the words next to Atlas. He holds it up with the weight of the sky so light on his shoulders.

Summary
Sanji grew up believing touch only brought pain — until Zeff, and later the Straw Hats, taught him it could also mean warmth, safety, and love.

Summary
Sanji didn't have a lot of experience using this particular type of mermaid ‘power’ or whatever it technically was, but if ever there was a time for magical voice seduction, it was now. He grinned up at the guy, dialing down the smile just a little, turning it a bit coy. How did the stories go again? Hair tossing and eyelash fluttering? Weren't sirens just major flirts at the end of the day? Sanji ran a hand through his hair slowly, watching with a smirk as the movement was followed.
(Or, Sanji gets separated from the crew and gets by with a little mermaid magic)

Summary
Sanji doesn’t think he’ll ever be ready to air out his emotional baggage. If Bege hadn’t outed his familial ties they likely never would have come out at all. His crew is aware of who he is and the weight behind his unwanted surname. Sanji has thrown it away.
It seems only right that the man who raised him be made aware of it too.

Summary
Sanji knows he should be concerned about it, that he’s worrying his crew mates. He’s more concerned about the gaps in his day, that he doesn’t remember how he got here. It’s so frustrating. Trying to understand it is like running water through a sieve. Why is it that he can’t remember this, yet the memories he tries to forget stay locked inside his mind to torment him whenever he least expects it.

Sanji wants nothing more than to forget his past, but it has a way of creeping up on him in ways that he can't predict or hide, no matter how secret.
