“Hey, Buck?” Christopher says. “How do you know you’re not in love with my dad?”
Buck freezes. A full body clench. “Uh,” he says. “Could you - - I think I - - sorry,” he laughs uncomfortably. “Could you repeat the question?”
“I asked Dad, but now I’m more confused. And you date men, right? But you don’t date Dad. So how do you know you don’t want to date Dad?”
Or, Christopher has some questions. He asks the two worst possible people.

Summary
“We should make it a road trip, Eddie! We never hang out anymore, Eddie! It’ll be so fun, Eddie!” Eddie mimics, his voice trailing as he disappears into the tiny bathroom connected to their Budget Queen motel room.
“We’re not stranded,” Buck scoffs. “And you weren’t saying that when you were stuffing your face with the tamales that I found, or the cherry pie that I read about.”
Or, there was only one bed. And a lot of bickering.

Summary
Buck glances beyond his laptop, over to Eddie. Specifically, the hand Eddie has laid out on the table, between them. He’s so caught up in this world that exists predominantly in his mind — partially on the screen in front of him — that he barely thinks before he’s reaching out to grab a hold of Eddie’s hand. Testing a grip, and thinking of what exactly he can feel.
The warmth of Eddie’s hand, and the ridges of his knuckles, the way he moves just slightly in surprise.
“Um. Buck?”
Buck snaps out of his writing mind-fog, cheeks heating as he looks at the hand he’s got on Eddie’s — thumb tucked under his palm, which is definitely too intimate for this early scene — then up to meet Eddie’s gaze.
He looks mostly amused, but a little confused too, and he’s still lit up by that sun, so beautiful it kind of hurts.
Or: Buck starts writing a book. Eddie helps.
