Summary
Steve finds an incredible knack for taking punches that should be for someone else. Discovers that he doesn't mind it as much as he probably should, but that's only because he can give just as good as he can take.

Summary
In the summer of 1985, Steve Harrington starts writing in a notebook.
Excerpt:
Steve likes that Eddie talks with his hands and uses five-dollar words that Steve has to interrupt him to ask about, always making Eddie lose his thoughts and pick up another topic, until halfway through Eddie will remember again, so conversations go round in big playground circles.I have a friend who talks like skipping rope
On his drive back Steve will try remember the new words, repeat them three times because that is how long Nancy says it takes to memorise stuff, and lets the sounds of them shape his tongue.
Conversations jump up and down

Summary
Eddie looked good. He looked handsome and comfortable; soft-jumpered, thick-socked, loose-jeaned. His hair and skin looked clean. He looked healthy, like he was eating well. He looked rested. Like someone who had their shit together. There was an incense-like smell, and a coffee smell, and something soapy- fabric softener or shampoo. He wasn’t looking at Steve, was looking at the space just past him.
Steve perched on the arm of the couch, facing him. He figured he looked uncomfortable and stupid and strung out. He pulled a thing of spearmint gum out of his pocket and put a piece into his mouth then held the packet in front of him automatically, offering. A little flicker of emotion crossed Eddie’s face- amused, annoyed, Steve couldn’t tell which one was prevailing- and then he rolled his eyes and stepped away from the serving hatch, stood close enough to wordlessly hold out his palm. It took Steve a second to push out a piece into his hand.
“Thanks,” Eddie said.

Summary
He sometimes imagines how it would feel to be in Munson's orbit. Sometimes imagines where his words would be. Hopes they'd curl along Munson's cheek bone where Steve could brush his thumb so easily. Or in the junction between his neck and shoulder, a place where Steve could drop kisses. Or along the curve of his hip, where Steve's palm could settle.
None of it matters because Steve never says anything.
