Rowdy Yates is sure nobody else feels like this. He knows on the whole he probably got some knots tied in his brain back when his pa left and his ma got all cold ‘fore she kicked it too, but this is somethin else.
If it were intrigue that’d be fine. Rowdy would even be okay with it if he were feeling plain admiration for his boss. It’d be awkward sure, but better than this.
‘Cause Rowdy doesn’t feel plain admiration for Mister Favor. What Rowdy feels for Mister Favor is somethin far worse. Rowdy is foolhardy and gullible but he ain’t no liar, not even to himself.
