Summary
Conventional wisdom would have one think that a lifetime of cultivation and night hunts would have prepared Lan Wangji for such a scene. Had it been a malevolent entity, an out of place ghost or demon, or even a mischievous but ultimately harmless spirit, they would be right. However if Lan Wangji was correct, and he very much suspected he was, the entity in front of him exceeded what could be classified as spiritual or supernatural and landed squarely into mythical and fantastical.

Wei Wuxian didn’t often like following orders, but he could go along with this one. “Lan Zhan, really? The day will be beginning soon and—”
As soon as he rested on his knees, still mid-sentence, Lan Zhan leaned over and pressed a hand on his neck. His entire body went limp. Simultaneously, he felt his lips seal from the Lan silencing spell.
He squeaked a little and was saved from falling onto the floor only by Lan Zhan steadying his body as he lost the ability to hold himself upright.
“Good,” said Lan Zhan. “Thank you for letting me borrow you for the day.”
