The Ryland Grace who will return to Earth — forever cast in xenonite, forever cast in the role of a hero — will be known the same way he knew Yáo and Ilyukhina, before he remembered them. A hero embarks on a journey and returns forever changed. Ryland Grace doesn’t fit that mold, isn’t a hero. Might not return. Might not want to.
