“I will drive,” Damian announces.
“No.” Jason grabs him by the scruff of his robes before he can squirm away. “Tim’s driving.”
Damian whirls, eyes bright. “I am perfectly capable-”
“Yes, Damian, you are, but you’re also too short to reach the pedals.”
Jason’s honestly surprised he doesn’t get a knife in the gut for that. Tim is wise enough to keep his mouth shut.Wise - Jason decides firmly - but also breathtakingly stupid, because he takes two steps away from the truck and almost falls flat on his face when his injured leg gives out.
Jason catches him, right in time for him to say, “Right. Stab wound. Forgot about that.”Jason sighs, casts his gaze to the sky, and mentally apologizes to Bruce. He’s herding cats here. He and Dick weren’t this bad, were they?
(They were, he knows they were, which just makes this whole fiasco even more annoying.)

“What was my name back in our old home?”
His dad abruptly stood up and left the room. His mother stared at her hands for a few, seemingly infinite moments.
He had foolishly not realized the gravity of his mistake and the rare opportunity his question meant for their future.
His mother seemed to gather her bearings after a few moments but still glanced at him like he transformed into something horrifyingly unfamiliar.
Her lips weakly stretched into a sad mirage of a smile.
Something about the twist of her lips looked like the porcelain pieces of her facade were cracking.
“Don’t worry about who you were then, Timothy. Focus on your name now. It’s the only one that’s going to be worth anything.”
The trials and tribulations of Timothy Jackson Drake in his new home of Gotham, featuring green nights, cultural dissonance, overbearing friends, a crazed bat creature, shadows, parental guilt, smiling clowns, and the birth of an oriole.
