“Married witches?” the man repeats it with raised brows, a mystified look on his face. “You’re a Watchful Eye that is married? I'm... that’s - new, for me."

    or

Five times Olruggio jokes (and lies) that he’s married and has kids to (dodge) people (mostly his clients), and that one time he [redacted].

One by one the moments when the girls realized that Master Qifrey and Olruggio were in love. Plus one moment where someone knew their love was not meant to be.
(also analyzes Qifrey and Olruggio's parental relationship with the girls)

Unlike all the other apprentices, Riché had immediately assumed that Master Qifrey and Master Olruggio were married. For her, it was a far greater shock to learn that they were not.

“He’s not here,” Coco blurts while Tetia nods along frantically behind her. “He went out ages ago and didn’t come back for dinner and we’re getting worried—“

“It’s Qifrey,” Olruggio snorts. “He probably got distracted by a passing—“

A clap of thunder sounds outside, illuminating the bridge with a burst of light, and Olruggio stops. His eyes flash to the window, as if he’s only just noticed the storm, and he goes very still. Then he rounds on them and demands, “How long has it been raining?”

It's storming outside, and Qifrey hasn't come home.

    Summary

A witch’s pen, ink, and quire are their most important possessions, and to lose even one of their three most coveted components oft renders the ability for a witch to cast null in its entirety. It is a true feat of talent, skill, and practice to be able to write seals upon surfaces different from those meant for a standard, or even specialized, woodcuror wand or dip pen. For a witch to be able to cast without conjuring ink, well that is something that is simply impossible, at least for those of upstanding witch society. Which is why, of all the components that each and every witch uses, each and every day, they always take extra care to keep their ink well stocked, and safe above all else.

'a witch must never lose their casting components, their ink specifically.' that is the teaching the great hall duly impressed into every young witch's mind.

Qifrey is not the average witch born of the great hall, though.

Qifrey will never be left without ink, and this is not a blessing
