When young prosecutor Miles Edgeworth is pressured to obtain a partner due to a disagreement with Franziska, he seeks out an actor who can play the role for him. To his surprise, the actor who answers his call for help ends up being theatre student Phoenix Wright, who reminds him of a past he would rather forget. Unfortunately for him, he cannot find anyone else willing, so he is forced to put on the ruse with the absolute last person he would want to do it with.

Chris watched the final drops of coffee pour into his mug, the sacred liquid finally ready to be consumed. He gratefully wrapped his hands around the mug and took a long sip, monitoring the food on the pans in silence. For him, there was still a simple joy in this symphony, in this daily dance, even if many others did not feel the same anymore. Despite the lingering thought of being forgotten, despite the crushing weight of not having any, the mornings were still his, or at least, he wanted them to be.
When overtaken by fear regarding the state of breakfast, Christopher Breakfast is visited by the one person who would notice his altered state: the Fear General.

His eyes flick down to his note cards. He swears he’d printed them in his best penmanship, atop one of the library's extra premium desks, but everything is spinning and he feels faintly like he's going to throw up. "Did you uh," he starts, letters swirling in his eyes. "Did...you fall out of heaven...?"
Genius prosecutor-in-training Miles Edgeworth regards him with a blank stare. Phoenix thinks now would be an opportune time for him to locate the nearest possible bridge and promptly jump off of it.

With a heavy sigh, Kaveh buried his face in his pillow. All of his romantic ideals, as usual, were quashed by the one man he actually yearned for such affections from - a marriage for the sake of fucking tax deductions.
Though it made sense in a cold, rational way, such a logical and disinterested proposal for Kaveh to willingly sacrifice his heart for nothing more than mora cut deep into his chest. And worst of all... Alhaitham was unaware that Kaveh’s heart could never even belong to anyone but him - that he was already the sole benefactor of Kaveh’s silent longing, having stolen Kaveh’s heart against his will long ago.
Kaveh curled around his pillow as if the soft cotton of his pillowcase could offer a reprieve from the turmoil churning deep in his stomach. He’d long since made peace with his unrequited love for Alhaitham, resigning himself to a lifetime of suppressed yearning - but this? This was torture, plain and simple, demanding mental gymnastics that Kaveh wasn’t confident he was flexible enough to contort himself into.

i don't even GO HERE i've never played one second of Genshin Impact in my LIFE but sometimes the fanfic chooses you I guess. Sososo many incredible lines in this, even if I don't exactly know the full context. I can't pick a favorite line but "I trust you with my life." "Then trust me with your heart, too." makes me especially crazy. I do not know what Kaveh being a light (officially I guess??) means but I'm glad he's Alhaitham's light <3.
