Galinda pushed her glasses up her nose. "Upland. Galinda Upland," she said, channeling every ounce of friendly energy she could. Elphaba did not seem like the type to warm up easily, and Galinda could not leave without her story. "I'm with OzCo Magazine."
"Hmm," Elphaba rounded her desk and sat back in her chair, folding her hands under her chin to study Galinda. "Shame. I thought you were a journalist."
"I'm a reporter," Galinda corrected, though sweetly. "That's why I'm here. To get your side of the story."

Elphaba blinks.
Glinda smiles sweetly.
“Elphaba,” she says gently, “darling—to come back from a smear campaign, you simply must have good press.”

Deciding that enough time has passed for Elphaba to be sufficiently in suspense, Glinda steps closer. "Three words, Elphie. Yellow," she takes another step, and the floor groans again in protest. "Brick." And another, so they’re nose-to-nose. "Road trip."
Glinda falls on the bed that she'd made mere moments before. As she kicks her heels in excitement, Elphaba lets herself pretend like she's just passed her finals or gotten kissed or found a blouse to match her bag. For a clock-tick, the whole world is in their hands again. Everything and nothing matters, and they're far from rounding the corner to thirty.
"Isn't it absolutely temptatulating?!"
Or: An ex-college situationship turned political rivalry copes poorly with their Saturn Return by making a series of increasingly bad decisions with friends while traveling Oz in a beat-up car, tropes abound
