    In the Shire there were two truths. The Tooks were odd and the Baggins were respectable. The Baggins family dealt in contracts and favours, and while the Shire knew that the Tooks were odd, it was the Baggins family that had other blood running through their veins.
    Bilbo Baggins did not go running out his door for want of an adventure, he went running out his door because of a terribly worded contract and a laughable quest that somehow held the spark of other.
    In this story, it is not the Tooks that held fae blood in their family tree, it is the Baggins, and theirs is so much closer to the surface.

    “Do you think we…” he started, but cut himself off. He wasn’t sure he wanted an answer.
    “Maybe,” Derek nodded anyway, eyes cast down. Their hands were intertwined on the bed where they sat, and Stiles traced Derek’s knuckles with his fingers.
    “How would we know?”
    Derek sighed and leaned over to rest his head against Stiles’ shoulder. “There’s always a sign."

    Based around the idea that Derek and Stiles get Eli before he leaves for college, and it changes their lives (for the better). And also that Eli only ever steals Stiles' jeep because he's a bratty teenager who misses his dad when he goes away for business :)

    His foot had just hit the bottom step on the porch and the next thing he knew he was spun around and pushed roughly against the front door. This was the second time tonight Derek had manhandled his way into Stiles' personal space. Between that primal growl from the elder teen and their close proximity, it sent a chill through him that had absolutely nothing to do with fear.

    Good, god, there was no reason he should have enjoyed that. Stiles found his gaze darting back and forth from Derek's bright eyes to his lips.

    “Kidding! Geez!” Stiles put his hands up in surrender, unable to stop the higher pitch his voice had taken.

    A quiet snarl escaped Derek before he shoved just a little harder at Stiles' chest. Derek huffed, then stepped back. “I was keeping an eye on you.”

    “Why?” His hands came up to straighten his shirt once more. The elder male's hands balled up at his sides, Stiles noticed. He also saw that Derek had tensed considerably. This made him watch the other a bit more skeptically, a brow shifting upward as his eyes narrowed. “Derek..? Why were you keeping an eye on me?”

    “Because I think the Alpha is targeting you.”
