Summary
Remember that time your favorite smart, obnoxious, infernally-corrupted hero rose from obscurity to become the King of Hell? Except, despite all of heaven and hell’s urging, despite fate and prophecy and divine proclamation, Sam Winchester…didn’t.
Instead, Crowley took the crown. But he knows Sam could have.
This bothers Crowley for reasons he can’t quite articulate. So he’s going to do what he does best–torture Sam about it indefinitely. Sam probably won’t become the Boy King of Hell after all just to get Crowley to shut up.
Probably.
It would help if Crowley stopped being right about things, though.

Dean wished he knew what was wrong, but Sam didn’t say a word, he just moved as if on autopilot, his gaze blank and stuck on the floor and the tears falling silently."
Dean and Mary rescue Sam from Toni and the British men of letters, but with Cas mysteriously MIA, Dean falls back into his old routine of patching Sam up himself, leaving Mary feeling like an outsider to their little family. Only Dean's much better at physical wounds than emotional ones, and the stitches aren't what Sam needs his help with.

Crowley is kidnapped by Sam and Dean, and is absolutely suffering. He is struggling to find his will to live, and is being forced to take human blood, to the point where he is addicted. He's deprived of everything, including touch. But, y'know... Sam is Sam. So, he just kind of helped. And casually ended up falling for Crowley. Just a warning, this story contains mentions of being drugged, forced starvation, and a bit of other stuff. Tread lightly.
