Sonic would only need to hibernate for three months.
That’s what he had to keep reminding himself as Sonic went kicking into hibernation. His only other comfort, besides a cozy burrow hidden away from the prying world, was the favor he’d asked of his long-time rival, Shadow. With hybrid genetics and Chaos in his veins, Shadow wouldn’t need to bed down for the winter storm of the century.
Just three months without the blue hedgehog. That was it.
Shadow only managed two weeks before he went to check on him.

Or, Sonic gets caught while buying Amy's birthday gift, and that somehow results in him getting into a relationship.

Summary

Somehow, by some miracle, he managed to convince Shadow to come with him to go out to lunch with him, Amy, and Tails to talk about their "relationship." All he has to do is make the relationship believable, not make Shadow kill him by the end of the hangout, and keep his feelings about Shadow a secret! Easy, right? (Title is based on the song "Talk Too Much" by COIN)

Summary
After the accident that ended Sonic's racing career, people insisted that he should be thankful to be alive. Unfortunately, while that may be true, he's also very bored and, quite frankly, starting to feel like a burden: Tails makes enough money for them at his repair shop, but Sonic can see the toll it's taking on his brother. So when a mysterious benefactor offers him a chance to race again, Sonic eagerly accepts, becoming Eggman Industries' unofficial spokesman, the Phantom Rider.
However, when a new driver called the Dark Rider arrives on the scene, Sonic finds that his contract with Eggman Industries comes with strings attached. At the same time, his brother hires a new shop assistant, the mysterious and enigmatic Shadow, who instantly captures Sonic's interest. Torn between his morals, his love of racing, and his desire for Shadow's attention, Sonic will have to decide whether being the Phantom Rider really is worth it.
