Summary
Coming to a halt next to the bed, the Herald bent down and picked the key up. It looked comically small in his hand.
“This key? This opens up all your restraints?”
“Yes.” Jayce nodded slowly.
“Good,” the Machine Herald said. Then, he let the key vanish into a pouch on his hip.
Jayce’s stomach dropped. He felt his throat tightening with fear, and he instinctively started pulling on his restraints again while trying to move away. His heart was hammering against his chest so fast it started to hurt.
“Relax, Jayce. I have no intention to hurt you. At least… not more than you’d enjoy.”

Jayce gets into another fight with the Machine Herald. The fight turns him on more than he's willing to admit, so a few days later, he sets himself up for a session of self-bondage, desperately chasing this feeling of being helpless. When the Machine Herald chooses that moment to break into his apartment, Jayce is convinced he's going to meet his end.
