Summary
Nuan drapes a length of sheer fabric the color of shallow, aquamarine water across the model’s hips and thighs. It conceals nothing, but only adds another layer of complexity for the students, another challenge. The model—Nuan says her name is Nesta—arranges herself on the chaise longue with easy grace.
One arm curves above her head, the other rests across her stomach. The pose echoes a thousand classic odalisques, but contrary to the women portrayed in those paintings, there’s nothing passive in her expression. She looks like she’s daring the room to do more than study her.
“We’ll start with gesture drawings,” Nuan announces. “Thirty seconds each. Capture the energy, the movement, and don’t worry too much about details.”
Emerie’s hand moves across the paper, but her lines are tentative, uncertain. Usually, she can detach and look at the model as an arrangement of cylinders and spheres, light and shadow, negative space. But this woman radiates something that bypasses every intellectual defense Emerie has constructed.
Her charcoal stutters.

He did feel lonely, but in some ways he felt safer with this team, and Shane had given him that, it was because of Shane that he moved to Ottawa. All the good things in his life curved back to Shane. Looking around, he tried to imagine him here, not Shane Hollander the hockey player, but his Shane, the man who made the darkest rooms feel like home. He felt suddenly certain that they would welcome him with love and respect. And, God help him, he was still hoping like an idiot that Shane would walk through the door.
Ilya tightened his grip on his roasting stick, jaw set, trying to divert his thoughts back to the present, when a ripple went through the group. Conversation dipped, then stopped completely.
“Um… what the fuck,” Dillon muttered, eyes flicking toward the house. “Is that Shane Hollander?”

"I said I'm fine." The words come out sharper than she intends, but another cramp is building and she needs to get out of here before she breaks down in front of them. Before they have more ammunition to use against her.

Elphaba doesn't believe she's beautiful. That is so wildly outside of Fiyero's perception of the world it briefly breaks his brainless brain.
