Summary
Every time you fall in love, it's supposed to be slightly different. And losing it is supposed to feel like losing a limb in your grief.
Leon stared up at the ceiling in the dark. Grey and pockmarked, crumbling into night sky. He supposed that at this point, he must be bioengineered himself to have survived losing more limbs than he was born with. But it was too hard to not fall in love. It wasn't romantic or lofty, he just simply loved over and over and over again in slightly different ways a thousand times like the same outcome wouldn't occur every single time.

Leon’s jaw tightened. “I’ll manage.”
“Manage?” Chris took a step forward. “You’re wrapped up in bandages, and you’re talking about managing like this is some routine assignment- ”
“It is routine,” Leon cut in sharply.
The silence that followed was immediate. Chris stared at him like he didn’t recognize him. Leon felt it, like something cracking open in his chest.
So he doubled down.“That’s the job,” he added, colder now. “You don’t get to pick when it’s convenient.”
Chris flinched. It was small and barely noticeable, but Leon still saw it. And it made something inside him twist so violently he almost lost his footing.
*Good. Keep going. Make it worse. He’ll let go if you make it worse.*
