Summary
It's remarkable, really, how quickly all thought leaves Ray's brain. He's always been an over thinker, always, ever since he was a little kid, but Pete's got this knack for calming him down in a way no one ever has before. Nothing, not drugs or alcohol or sleep-deprivation, has ever made him go fuzzy and blank like this. He feels like he's barely in control of himself, like Pete's snake charmer voice is fully in control of him, but it's not scary. It's nice, to give up like this. To just get out of his head for a little while.

Collie pauses with one hand still on the car's roof, scanning the shoreline and surrounding trees with a look of disgust.
"Fucking hinterland," he mutters. "What kind of dipshit hick would want to live here— What?"
He snaps the last word at Art, who tries to smother his laughter. He doesn't succeed; Collie’s expression sours further.
"I'm sorry, man," Art giggles. "But you knew where we goin'. You could just not tag along."
Collie’s only rebuttal is a weak scoff.

The cabin door slams open. Peeking through the loft's balustrade, Collie sees McVries and Garraty stumble inside, attached at the lips. Sighing, he thumps his head against the futon. Whatever. They'll continue into the master bedroom; as long as they don't get too fucking loud in there, he can pretend he never saw them.
Except they don't continue into the master bed.
(Or, Collie's plan not to rush his relationship with Art gets a little bit... de-railed.)
