"Hey," Steve said, moving to sit in the pool chair next to Eddie's. "You good, man?"
Eddie took a deep breath before answering. "Yeah, I'm good. Thanks for checking up on me, though, my knight in shining armour." Eddie turned his head and winked.
"I wouldn't call me a knight simply for keeping tabs on the people I'm hosting, especially when they're my closest friends, but I'll take it. Sir Steve, they'll call me," Steve said, laughing at his own little joke.
"Sir Steve, huh? Does that make me the princess?" Eddie asked, feeling like the world was theirs alone. Did Steve feel it too?
"If you want to be. I'd have to sweep you off your feet, though. Slay the dragon, charm Wayne to let you be my bride and all that." Steve was looking at the stars, lost in the fantasy they were building together.

Steve is dangerous. Eddie knew that already. High school wasn't kind to Eddie, and Steve and his posse certainly didn't make it any better. But that was a different kind of dangerous. It was the kind of dangerous that came with the power of a high social standing, and sure, it was dangerous to cross them, but only socially. No, the kind of dangerous Eddie is thinking about is another kind altogether. A kind more life-ending than life-altering.
