"The men seem to think we're cursed," Flint murmurs.

"The men always think we're cursed," Silver returns. "Fuck the men."

    Bookmarker's Notes

This series is so gorgeous, writing is delicious and beautiful and strangely delicate, I so wish there was more to thr series!

"He could," Silver says, and Flint tenses over him like a bowstring. "He could. He would."

"How the fuck would you know?”

The desperation that breaks Flint's voice is unmistakable, despite everything. The flare of fury in his eyes is more blatant a cover than any Silver has ever seen. He relaxes his hold on Flint's wrist to accommodate for it, but doesn't entirely let go, his own hand serving only as a buffer between Flint's and the surface of the table now. Flint can pull back at any time. He doesn't move.

"Because I do," Silver says, quietly. All else is so silent he feels as though he's screaming it. "I do, just as I imagine he did, once. And he will again. No matter his sins, Captain Flint is not as hard to love as you think."

    But has been orphaned augh!!

    Summary

Silna wakes up at the first blush of dawn light and realizes that in the night, while they both slept, she had gathered Goodsir into her arms. They are on their sides, and her right arm is trapped under him, numb, and meets her other in a hug across his chest. Goodsir is still asleep, Silna's chest pressed to his back, her nose in his curly hair, and when she draws slightly away from him so as to blink muzzily at their surroundings he sighs and shifts in his sleep to follow.

Silna stays with Goodsir well into the morning.

    Summary

Things don't always run smoothly, in the early days after they leave Genna. Currently, the thing that isn't running smoothly is the lower half of Thia's body. Dek finds her dragging herself along a corridor of the ship and crosses his arms, staring silently down at her.

“Oh, hi! I'm just – don't mind me,” Thia says brightly. “This shouldn't last long. My legs just went out – can you believe it?”

    “Yes,” Dek says flatly.

Or, Thia's having some reconnection problems after being torn in half and hastily put back together. Dek helps her out, and together they discover something neither of them expected. (Takes place after The Pack Survives.)

    Summary

    i.
When he turns his head to glance inside, eyes seeking for something to do without a customer to handle, Benson sees how his hair’s matted down to his forehead under the bill of his cap, sees the sparkle of sweat above his lip. Bradley doesn’t notice him looking, never does, but especially not now as he wavers in his spot in front of the register from the movement. His eyelids flutter a little, and Benson thinks too belatedly that the kid’s gonna eat tile if he doesn’t sit down.

Benson looks away, back down to the table, squeezing his eyes shut hard for a second and pressing his thumb to the spot between his brows. The heat’s making his mind run too fucking slow.

    ii.
He eyes Benson’s jacket one more time before turning to grab a dishrag and heading back to the counter. He passes by Benson mopping near one of the back tables and, this close, he’d know he was passing by Benson even with his eyes closed. He always smells like what Randy imagines the smoking section of a bar is like.

That was the other tell, he realizes belatedly — the green coat smells like musty cigarettes. Rained-through and dredging up to surface all the stale smoke embedded in the threads.

    Summary

He did not know how best to put it into words. I dreamed of you, he could say, because there had not been a night in months where he had not been hunted in his sleep by a brindled hart with wolf’s teeth. I thought you were taken mad, he could say, but Lyonel’s eyes were black and gold and the light of frenzy was in his face, and he could very well be mad. He certainly did not look like a man in his right mind, but the madness threw his features into contrast and made him more handsome somehow. It seemed unwise to let you be alone, he could say, because there was a blooming seed of fear in his gut that poor half-mad, half-beast Lyonel on his own in the rainwood would fall victim to bear or wolf or some lost hunter—

Foolish, Dunk knew, since the hart had survived his heats near as long as Dunk had been alive. Even a direwolf might pause at the sight of Lyonel and his splendid rack of antlers, forked like lightning with tines like arrowheads. He was a creature of sleek hard strength and blooded instinct. When his gaze met Dunk’s, it was Dunk who flinched away. What fool would think of hunting him?
