It’s a possible murder. Haru’s memory of a much younger version of himself comes flooding back, pinky-promising himself that when he would grow up to be a detective-cop, he’d never actually kill anyone, no matter how vile they were. He remembers the oath he’d taken as a police cadet in his days of youth, to never shoot to kill no matter how dire the crime was.
“Haru, he’s almost dead,” the voice he finally registers to be the Chief’s rings in his ear yet again. Haru’s throat constricts, constricts so impossibly that he thinks he’s asphyxiated himself, rendering himself mute.

Daisuke peeks an eye open to see just how much he’s riled Haru up, not forgetting to shoot him an unmistakable smirk. It’s become routine.
