The Corinthian smiles, with all three mouths. “Of course,” he says. “It’s what I was made for.”

Despite that, sometimes he still imagines it. Imagines Carl’s face when they kick the door of the cabin down and tell him he’s under arrest, and maybe he resists; maybe they have to rough him up a little and leave him bleeding, the way he leaves Derek bleeding. And maybe Carl starts crying, and he gets to echo Carl’s words back at him: man up, boy. Crying ain’t gonna stop anything.

He keeps moving forward at a steady pace, resisting the urge to run because how fucking embarrassing would that be, running because he missed them, and as he breaks through the treeline he shouts, “Oi, oi—what took you guys so long? It's been—”
And then he freezes, because yes, actually—something is very, very wrong.
The Sunny is anchored just off shore, close enough to see the deck but far enough away that the crew has had to take the Mini Merry to make land. Scattered across the beach in various stages of chaos—rolling around, yelling, fighting—are his crew but not his crew, so similar and yet so, so different. They look younger, fresher, and whatthefuck there, on the deck of the Sunny just peering over the railing, he catches a flash of green—his own green hair—
“Ah, fuck,” he grunts, and then immediately turns back around because no, actually, he does not want to deal with this.

Summary
He’s jumping to conclusions. He does this to himself a lot. He makes up scenarios in his head for fun and then ends up getting lost in them. Never with the elaborate stories he tells to impress or entertain his friends. Just simpler stuff: the stories that he tells only to himself at night as he’s waiting to fall asleep. In those stories, he's kissed Luffy a couple times — maybe more than a couple times — only because he can’t stop thinking about what rubber lips might feel like. Or sometimes he holds Luffy’s hand, only because Usopp’s never held hands with anyone else before. Or sometimes, on the nights when he feels kind of strange and lonely, he imagines Luffy in the hammock beside him and they curl up into each other—
Usopp cuts himself off because he knows he’s starting to ramble. “None of that means anything, though, does it?” he asks and finally risks a glance at Nami.
She’s smirking.
“Oh crap,” Usopp says.
