Hollander-and-Rozanov, college superstars from rival schools, evenly matched. Rozanov-and-Hollander, the new big two. Rozanov: aggressive lefty, killer forehand. Shane: the fastest serve on tour, defensive backhand righty.
Rozanov broke the cardinal rule of ignoring the opponent as they walked past each other at the net. “1221,” he whispered, and Shane immediately broke out in cold sweat.
“Fuck off,” he muttered, and took a swig from his first bottle, then the second one. Then, hands itching, he bent over to adjust the labels again, and the spacing, several times until it was perfect. What the fuck. He thought they had agreed…
Rozanov shrugged, his infernal grin still wide, and toweled off his shoulders. Shane was ashamed to say that he watched a drop of sweat roll down Rozanov’s neck and get lost beneath his shirt. Shane fucking hated Ilya Rozanov.

“Hello!” the boy calls, and stops just a hair too close to Techno. “I’m Tommy!”
“Hullo,” Techno says, and whistles so that Floof stops barking around Tommy. Floof wags his tail and comes over to try to jump up Techno’s legs. He picks Floof up and scratches him behind the ears, letting Floof burrow a little deeper into his arms.
Tommy shakes himself out of staring. Probably at the scar on his nose.
“I came to say hi, and to give you this,” Tommy says, and approaches Techno. Techno takes it, a little surprised.It’s…a Joja Mart gift card. With ‘$0’ scribbled in sharpie in the corner. An empty Joja Mart gift card. Uh.
So maybe he isn’t excited to meet the new farmer.

Ilya was used to hazing. He had been subjected to it, he had participated in it, and, as a captain, he had stood guard over the rookies and protected them from anything truly harmful. But if he had been asked, Ilya would have approved of this prank. He would have authorized it, given Cliff and Vicky his seal of approval, perhaps even helped orchestrate it.
Any other day, Ilya might have been happy to play along.
But, in perfect dramatic irony, it had not happened any other day. It had happened today. And, cherry on top, of course the rookie had to walk in when Shane was already freaking out about Ilya saying his name.
