Work here is important, but those rebels seem so happy Tyler can't possibly stop imagining what a life outside everything he knew could be.

All of the activity at camp during the days and the shouts and laughter and noise, it was just all so new to him. Escape is a black car left idling in a gas station parking lot just off the highway. It shines, dark as sin, and Clancy waits until he is sure no one is watching him before he breaks into a run so bold, so daring that he’s almost certain someone will catch his arm before he’s even made it out of their reach. But he’s been slipping towards the edge of the awning’s safety ever since he got here. Waiting for just the right moment to flee.
And they aren’t expecting this, not today of all days. When the sun is bright and dangerous. And the summer’s heat is bearing down like God’s wrathful right hand.
