Here, have a dose of caring Dean and much-comforted Sam. If you like wanting to just hug the daylights out of them both, come on in.
Coda to My Throat is an Open Grave by inkandpaperqerty. Much like an excellent ep of Supernatural, this fic stuck with me.... but there is something I wished we'd been able to experience in its world. When Dean and Cas purchase badly abused psychic Sam Winchester at a monster auction, they quickly realize he is far less monstrous than advertised. I highly recommend it; it's a well-written, touching gen story of Sam and Dean bonding before they even realize they're brothers.
In the original story, Sam has been "sterilized" prior to purchase, and he's ear-tagged like livestock before they leave with him. Given the generally healing and caring nature of both Dean and Cas in the fic, I'm assuming they would have fixed those things, but we don't get to read about it. So I wrote it.

Summary
Dean didn't get paid nearly enough for the job he did. Purchasing Lucifer's Prom Dress with the money he had set aside for his missing brother and then traveling across the country with the Boy with the Demon Blood riding shotgun had to be worth more than credit card fraud could provide.
Sam didn't get paid enough, either, but he wasn't as picky as Dean. He just wanted a family and a place to call home. Maybe a break from the constant state of terror he lived in. He knew he had no right to want that; he was a stupid, disobedient, useless freak of nature who disappointed every owner he ever had, but... maybe just one thing? Just an older brother to get in between him and his nightmares; one who might, if Sam was a very good boy, call him Sammy and give him hugs. That would be nice.
Yeah, that would be more than enough for Sam.
