Summary
There was never a dramatic shift. No rain-soaked confessions. No declarations. Just shared shifts, shared coffee, shared couches.
By the time the emergency department realizes that Drs. Frank Langdon and Melissa King are circling something dangerously close to love, it’s been quietly developing for over a year.
Naturally, the only reasonable response is to start a betting pool.

Summary
"Is this what you want?" Mel asked, eyes searching his face so urgently he could barely track them.
Frank sighed, stretching out his neck and closing his eyes. "It's what she wants—"
"You, Frank," Mel interrupted. "I don't care about Abby. What do you want?"
He wet his lips, rubbing them together as he watched her sit with a hand on the door, ready to leave the car at any given moment. Then, he nodded. "Yeah," he said simply. "I want this."
She shook her head, gathering her bag from by her feet and pushing the door open. "Then have it," she said, forcing herself out. "Just don't expect me to watch."

Summary
All things considered, it was probably for the best that Mel King was a Beta. She couldn't imagine being overwhelmed by scent and instinct 24/7 like an Alpha or an Omega, so she really couldn't be too upset on that front. Not to mention also the other social layers to the designations, no thank you.
Being a Beta was safe and boring. Dr. Langdon didn't seem to mind befriending them either, so that was a plus.
As hectic as the Pitt could be, the return of her favorite doctor did a lot for Mel's peace of mind, even if he smelled kind of good and was kind of too nice to her. He was a little bullheaded about it, but that's just how Alphas were. Right? Yeah.
